Possibly it's a coincidence, or the maybe the Bar is having a joke, or it could even be that there's a universal significance to this date.

Regardless, one Luke Smith steps into the bar. He hit a growth spurt over his time away, leaving him noticeably taller and with a deeper voice*, but Luke is still the same Alien Experiment Boy all have come to know and love. (Except for the Daleks business, but everyone in the Whoniverse has to have a run-in with them sometime.)
At any rate, he grins at the bar and finds himself a booth.
