Billy isn't reading, but he sure seems rather calm sitting with a whetstone in one hand and a fair sized blade in the other. On the table in front of him there's a bottle of tequila and a shot glass along with a chunk of wood

'Lincoln County. Sources report that notorious outlaw William H. Bonney, also know as Billy the Kid, was shot and killed by the Sheriff Patrick Garrett on the night of July 14th, 1881. It has been confirmed that Bonney was killed by a gunshot wound to the back...'
He almost doesn't go over, because he's too distracted by the words running through his mind to make himself walk. He can still feel the pages of that newspaper the boys picked up in town after church, light in his hands.
But eventually, he does go over, and drops himself into the seat next to Billy.
Doc looks tired, if anything. There are also still-healing scabs on the back of his right hand from putting his first into the mirror. He smiles, though.
"Quiet night at the end of the universe?"
He signals a waitrat with a slight lift of a hand. He wants another shotglass.

"Howdy, Doc."
His smile doesn't waver but his eyes narrow a small fraction as he studies Doc.

"It appears to be that way. So far."

He shrugs slightly.
"It's been a long week."

"I spent about a month and a half after that, out, doin' some work on a place down in Texas."
Reply
His mind goes briefly to what happened in July but doesn't let it linger there long.
"Texas, huh? Respectable work?"

"So what was your long week about?"
Reply
He shakes his head.
"Not bein' able to do much to help -- I just don't like that."
