There's already someone there. He's got a glass too. His doesn't need a refill. Noting Max's presence, he looks extremely unconcerned.

After a while, he nods companionably.

Max is feeling magnanimous so he tosses in a smile of greeting when he returns the nod. Then, in a bout of generosity, he raises his newly refilled glass in silent toast.

"Celebrating something in particular?" The man asks, raising one eyebrow.

Perhaps if he had known 'Elizabeth' for longer, Max might find that expression familiar.

"Not really celebrating," Max shrugs his broad shoulders. "Though the woman I'm waiting for is certainly worthy of celebration." Because, really, she's smokin' hot.

"Ahhh," he says, giving Max a lecherous grin. "I know the type. Or to be perfectly correct, I have known many."

If you take his meaning.

Oh, Max takes his meaning.

"A man after my own heart," Max laughs. "We should swap war stories some time." And the stories he means aren't really about 'war', now are they?

The man throws his head back and laughs. "War stories! Nothing wrong with a bit of battle, so long as there is a peaceful resolution, eh? Or a full concession." He winks.

Max can't help a wry chuckle at that. "I often find the peace negotiations to be quite intriguing. The fight to make sure all parties come out of the encounter happy and satisfied."

To that, he toasts again. "And this place is certainly good for that. Let me tell you about a girl I met on New Year's Eve..."

It's quite a story, which segues into another, of course. And then it's Max's turn.

Max laughs and interjects at the right points. He's got plenty of experience with these sorts of discussions. He's made it through a couple of stories of his own, trading back and forth, when he frowns.

"How long have we been talking?" he asks suddenly, interrupting his story.

The man looks at his wrists, which are indeed bare. He shrugs. "For some time, judging by the coals of the fire. Is this woman of yours keeping you waiting?"

He keeps a straight face.

"Maybe she's just running late," Max says. His drawls it out slowly, maybe a bit doubtfully. "You know how long it can take a woman to get ready..."

And Elizabeth struck him as worth waiting for. Well, waiting some reasonable amount of time for. Where 'reasonable' meant an hour or two.

"Depends on the woman. She seem like the type? Some take all day, some are...a little more eager."

Hahahahaha.

"Well," Max frowns a bit, "to be honest she struck me as the live fast and hard type. Not the sort who worried about getting all dressed up. If you know what I mean?"

Now that he thought about it, Max finds himself wondering at even the one hour wait.

"The dangers of cross-universe romance is that sometimes the universe interferes," he says. "Perhaps her door went missing. Or something else."

He would never suggest Max wasn't interesting enough.

Out loud.

"I suppose that's possible," Max sighs. "Usually I rather like this place, but if it's going to start interfering in my personal business, well... I might change my opinion."

It's a good thing Coyote didn't tell him. Max'd be devastated.

Or something.
