Guppy is clearly running late, stopping at the bar just to stuff half a sandwich down before heading over to set up Life Support.
It's clearly a case of 'more haste less speed'; just as he's finishing getting the chairs in order and putting out the cakes, he knocks over a jelly*, which falls on his foot.
He has his sign up, but he'll take a moment to get the stuff out of his shoe.
