The note had politely advised him that a meeting would be prudent, and Gabriel Tam learned some time ago not to disregard this particular individual's recommendations.

As a result, this evening finds him ensconced in one of the armchairs near the fireplace, reading a newspaper while he waits.

Galadan, who merely stepped out for a bit of what is politic to call 'fresh air', enters Milliways through the back door. Anyone else might be expected to appear rain-damp or windblown.

The Wolflord, however, is far more fastidious than that. Or so appearances would suggest.

"Ah. Gabriel. I trust you are here on business, at the moment?"

Gabriel raises his eyebrows.

"You might indeed, given the communique I received." He gestures to a nearby chair, then signals for waitstaff.

"What's your pleasure?"

Galadan's expression carries with it the barest hint of a smile, and as he sits--

"Wine, I believe, will serve well enough. I leave the particular vintage up to you."

He places their order, then leans back in his own chair, settling himself comfortably.

"Matters have not been ill, I may hope?"

He's fairly certain he'd have heard, if that had been the case.

Mary is taller than she was the last time Gabriel saw her!

This is especially noticeable right now, seeing as she is currently sort of looming over him.

"I hope I shall not discover that the reason you have not visited in a good while is because you have been ill again," she says, extremely sternly indeed.

Indeed she is, but he doesn't seem discomfited by it as he smiles up at her.

"I'm happy to assure you that it's nothing of the sort. Hello, Mary."

"Good."

Pressing questions settled for the moment, one might think that Mary would be free to move on to the next step: conventional greetings. One, however, would be wrong.

"Then where have you been? I have not seen you since I went back to school!"

"I gather," Gabriel says dryly, indicating her new height, "that time between your school's location and between where I reside may be somewhat misaligned."

Simon's heading for one of those armchairs himself, with a mug of the best coffee in the multiverse and a toasted muffin.

He stops for a moment in surprise when he catches sight of the other armchair's occupant, and then smiles.

"Wan an, Dad."

"Simon."

Gabriel's answering smile is warm.

"How goes your evening?"

"Pretty well. And yourself?"

He takes the chair next to his father's, and carefully sets down his cup and plate.

"Not bad," he allows, after an instant's judicious consideration. "It's nice to have an evening that allows for a visit here, to be certain."
