The blonde who flounces into the bar - flounces would be as good a word as any to describe the way in which she throws herself into a chair, glaring at nothing in particular - is, in a word, annoyed"Can I have a drink, Bar? Please?" she asks, trying to throw a little extra affection into her voice on the hopes that she'll get something good ( Read more... )

Barney wanders down to the bar to grab some dinner, but instead spots Izzie looking pretty upset, even given how they met.

He's got a smile on his face by the time he walks over, even though he's a little concerned. "Hey, Izzie? You okay?"

[[OOC: Heading to bed, but wanted to tag before I did so. Hope that's okay!]]

It'll be a while before she has to do a double-take when she looks at him, but when she sees that it's Barney, she lights up.

"Hey," she replies, feeling a little better now that she sees a familiar face. "Just a rough day at the office, that's all. How're you?"

"I've been alright. Had a friend that convinced me to take up the base guitar again. Sorry to hear 'bout your day, though. At least there's Milliways, right?" He leans against the bar, not wanting to intrude on her space.

"Yeah? How's that going so far?" She swivels in her chair to face him better, abandoning her drink for the time being.

"Seriously. Thank God for Milliways."

"It's going... better than I hoped. I didn't realize how much I'd forgotten about music in general," Barney says a little sheepishly. "Bar's been feeding me more guitar tabs than food, almost."

To prove his point, the tabs for the bass part of 'Barracuda' pop out of the bar. "Yeah, thanks, Bar."

"Good choice, Bar," Izzie says with a partially teasing tone as she grins at Barney.

"Well, I think she's telling you that you have to play something for me sometime."

"I don't know that I'm good enough to do that yet," he quickly counters. "I wouldn't want to rupture your eardrums or anything. It's really been a long time for me."

Or he's extremely modest.

"You sure?" She reaches over her shoulder for her drink, raising the glass to her lips.

"Come on. I bet you're not as bad as you think."

"Well, maybe not," he allows. "But it's just bass guitar, so I dunno how well that would go just playing it by itself, unless I tried to play something from memory or something."

"True. It's funny, though. Bass players never get nearly as much attention as guitarists do. But they're kind of the backbone of the band, usually." Izzie shrugs.

"I don't know. I think the bass guitar is awesome."

"Yeah. I didn't mind though; I just played it for fun and cuz my friends needed a bassist." He shrugs.

"You play or something?"

"Oh, no. I'm probably one of the least musical people you will ever meet. I've dated a musician or two in my time, though."

But the look on her face implies that the past is merely past at this point.

"Oh, okay, well. At least you appreciate my craft and all," he jokes. "Maybe I'll run up and get it after grabbing a bite to eat?"

"By all means." Izzie motions for him to take a seat. "What kind of doctor would I be if I deprived someone of food?"

Barney does so, and taps the bar, a sub sandwich and soup appearing shortly afterwards. "Well, under normal circumstances, not a very good one. But you have to for surgeries and certain procedures, dontcha?"

coconutextract October 23 2008, 18:00:24 UTC
"True. Some surgeries require you to go without food for at least twelve hours. But other than that, I'm pretty sure a sandwich and soup won't be a risk to your health."

She finishes off her first drink, playing with the little umbrella that came along with it.
