This holiday spirit thing is finally starting to have an effect on Anakin. He emerges from the painting fairly whistling and bearing a number of carefully rolled up papers. He has realized it is doubtful he will get parts to make everyone's present before the upcoming holiday, and so is settling for giving them the plans for their presents instead ( Read more... )

Obi-Wan looks up. "Hello, Anakin. What was that in aid of?" He gestures toward the tree.

"A holiday called Christmas. It involves giving presents to one's friends. Quite a happy custom, as far as I can tell." He beams.

*Tom sees Anakin, with whom he's not spoken in entirely too long. He nods at the elderly gentleman beside him.*

Anakin, how are you? I've not had luck talking with you this week. Not since last week, in fact, when there seemed to be, er, some difficulties with a young woman I'd not seen before.

"Tom! It's good to see you. That was Leia; she is rather upset with me. But let's not talk of that, you should meet my teacher. Tom Riddle, meet Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Leia?

*Tom stares at Anakin in concern for a moment, and then focuses his attention on Obi-Wan.*

Good evening, Mr. Kenobi.

Obi-Wan nods to Tom, then turns to Anakin. "I sense a certain... similarity between you and him. Is that how the two of you became associated?"

A slight squirm, but not too much. He's taken Mara's lecture to heart.

"Yes. Tom and I sensed a similarity of purpose about each other and got to talking. There are a number of us here who have returned from the Dark. We find it good to support each other."

"It sounds like a very good plan to me. Each of you knows the warning signs, so can spot them in the others."

*Tom looks chagrined in front of the stranger.*

Erm, yes. I was a Dark wizard, using magic not dissimilar to the Dark side of your Force. I'm not anymore. Anakin has been most helpful to me as a mentor.

Anakin shoots him an embarrassed glance. "I haven't really done all that much, Tom."

"I imagine you've been an example, at least. Of how to come back from the abyss." He realizes what he just said. "If you'll pardon the expression."

It was good for me to see someone who'd lived the life I could have come back from the abyss. It gave me much hope.

"I'm glad to hear it." Tom's phrasing gets his attention. "The life you could have lived?"

Just after Obi-Wan says this, Peter walks in from the House of Arch, carrying an armload of presents. Spotting Anakin, Obi-Wan and Tom, he walks over to them, and manages a bow that's only somewhat hampered by the presents he's trying very hard not to drop.

"Good evening, Master Kenobi, Teacher and Tom. I hope you're all well tonight?"

Hullo, Peter. I'm very well. And you?
