[[Millitimed to about the same time Gordon came back in.]]

"Gordon's in the Citadel, see the explosions?; we gotta watch out for ourselves, Annie, get outta dodge! No, you can't go after him, what are you, insane? No, Annie; Roger, help her, please. I gotta go find some ammo--"

Blink. Blink.

"Well, hey there, Milliways." He sighs. This was so ( Read more... )

Enzo approaches with haste as soon as Barney appears. "Are you part of Dr. Freeman's mission?" he demands.

"Better'n that, I've known Gordon since his Black Mesa days. I was the one who organized this whole assault before he came in." He pauses. "Were you? Don't mean to forget a face, but it's all been such a blur, really."

"I was gonna be," he says with a bit of a sulk. "But he left me here on med-duty. What happened to him?!"

"I... I don't know. I sent him into the Citadel to finish things off in there and... shortly after that, I'm in here. Why?" Barney's face suddenly becomes a flurry of concern, like that of a soldier for his fellow officer. "Has he come back? Did he make it out alright?"

Somewhere along the way, someone got food down Gordon's throat, patched him up as best they could, and shoved him up the stairs. He's been up there the whole time, where 'the whole time' is defined as 'the amount of time it takes for one man in the shower to use up all the hot water and then realize it's gotten cold on him'. Sleep struck him as something of a priority at that point, but-

Well. If someone comes in, and you're in your room, you're not going to be there when they arrive, are you.

So, yeah, Gordon headed back downstairs after getting dressed. Not in the HEV suit; a, that takes too long to clean, and b, the thought of having to work all the little catches and controls necessary to put it back on puts a serious knot in his stomach just at the moment. Jeans, and the circled-lambda T-shirt that appeared in his dresser ages back. That, he can handle. No one's going to object if he falls asleep on one of the couches dressed like that- and everyone he needs to see safe and sound again knows what the shirt means, too.

Barney remembers that snore. "...Gordon?" He walks over to the couches, a concerned look on his face. "That you, man?"

The voice is a familiar one, which is the only reason Gordon wakes up at all; he's too knackered to come awake for anyone he doesn't know or anything that his brain doesn't classify as It's Going To Kill You. His eyes snap open, and he pushes himself upright; only then does he actually see Barney.

Gordon is not a religious man, and never has been, but this is the moment for an 'oh thank God face if ever there was one.

"Hey, Gordon," he says softly; he didn't want to wake him up. "I was kinda worried 'bout you up there... things weren't looking so great. I'm glad you made it out okay, Gordon."
