Will has been struggling over writing out poetry and blinks in surprise at seeing Merlin before all is put away,

The paper rustles after a moment, lowering just enough for him to peer over the top at the person who just addressed him, faintly puzzled expression giving way to a smile.

"Indeed it is, Master Scarlett."

"Where 'ave ye been 'idin' yerself?"

Merlin gets a quick hug and bow mixed together.

"At home? Ruling an entire empire, kingdom... whatever you want to call it, takes effort." Merlin looks slightly agrieved about it. But he will return the hug. "No bowing, remember?"

"Aye, course, still yer kingdom should 'llow ye some moments o'rest. Can I get ye a drink?"

Will sits down and looks at the paper as the book of poetry by Edgar Allan Poe and a small journal is set down.

"Don't tell anyone, but," Merlin leans forward. "I'm playing hooky tonight. Maybe for the entire weekend. And thanks, but I have a coffee that'll do me fine for a while."

"They are. Shall we adjourn to the bar? I mean, I'd offer to share this delightful chair with you, but that could be a bit forward on my part."

"Yes, but it takes practice. Long months, you understand, because outside of spells, you can't learn overnight."

"Aye, been workin' at it. Doc got me workin' on it 'gain just feel a fool."

Will turns the book so Merlin can see, his hand isn't too bad, simple and careful.

"That's fantastic. Just keep working on the print first, and when you can write an entire paragraph without looking down more than a few times, we'll get you a book on cursive. That's trickier."

"Is that like what the monks write, all lovely?"

"Monks?" It'll take him a moment to recall the reference. "Ah, no. That's calligraphy. Takes years to learn."

"Take your time is my advice." Because Merlin is so worldly and everything.
