"Are you kidding? That was a hole in one," says a distinctive voice, from the door. "I've heard many a fine shot in my day, and that was one. How could you miss the roar of the crowd ( Read more... )

Thanks to the magic of Millitime, there is a Jenny coming to the rescue. Quickly stepping around the golf club, she takes hold of one of Hawkeye's arms.

"Where do you need to go?"

Hel-lo, nurse.

"Nowhere, now that you're here," Hawkeye tells the unfamiliar (pretty!) voice, and he grins at her. "Have we met? I feel like I'd recognize a voice as lovely as yours."

Jenny beams at the compliment. She is growing quite fond of them (especially when Bart's the one talking). She shakes her head even though the man can't quite see it.

"Probably not. I'm new here! My name's Jenny."

"Hawkeye Pierce, guided tour-taker extraordinaire," he says, still grinning that charm smile of his. "Think I could trouble you to deliver me to the bar?"

It's a funny name, but her dad does go by the Doctor. So she smiles back and turns them so they begin a slow walk to Bar.

"No trouble," Jenny responds, "Hawkeye. I like that name. It's very... I don't know. But I like it!"

Hawkeye grins, sudden and genuine; amused as hell. "I'm pretty fond of it myself," he says.

"It's after the character from The Last of the Mohicans; it was my father's favorite book."

Jenny shrugs, taking his hand and gently reaching it outward to let him know they've approached the Bar. She smiles at him, rather happy at his own grin.

"Never heard of it. Is it any good?" Beat. "I've only just discovered books. I don't think we had any on Messaline."

Hand on the bar for balance, Hawkeye finds his way onto a stool. "Oh, it's excellent," he assures her. "You could read it to me sometime."

(He is shameless, and his grin says that he's perfectly aware of it.)

"What's a Messaline?"

"It's the planet I was born on."

Because, machine or not, she was definitely born and not created.

But still, her grin remains amused and she nods. "If Bar gives me a copy, I can even try right now!"

Hawkeye grins! "That's not an offer I'm about to turn down."

That makes two grins!

After Jenny orders the book and a glass of lemonade from Bar, she turns to look back at Hawkeye. She tilts her head, curious.

"Does reading count as dating activities? Like, something humans do and such?"

Startled, he laughs. "Not usually." His smile is, bandages and all, the Hawkeye Pierce charm smile. "I could, however, be convinced to make an exception."

Blink, blink, blink.

Oh. She hadn't expected that.

"I think. Um."

WHY DOES THE BLOOD KEEP RUSHING TO HER CHEEKS IN THESE SITUATIONS?

"Do human relationships allow dates with multiple people?

"That's the very definition of dating," he says, grinning.

Jenny is still very unsure.

"And, um, togetherness?"

She sounds pretty, and Hawkeye's an opportunist, but he's not a bad guy.

"Depends what you mean," he says. "And how serious things are with the person you're involved in togetherness with."
