There was a period of time in which Madolyn thought the door wouldn't come back, and it had all been a weird dream of some sort. A dream that didn't explain a lot of what had been carried back into her own world. Needless to say, there's a certain amount of relief on her face as she comes into Milliways today. She heads straight for the bar, ( Read more... )

A young woman is curiously looking at the collection of test-tubes, wondering whether she really should wake the man up.

Well, if anything, he might want to find somewhere comfier to sleep.

She taps his shoulder.

Initially, Jekyll only gives a very reluctant sort of twitch. After a moment, however, he straightens up, one hand on the table, the other rubbing at his eyes.

He turns to look at Chuck as quickly as he can, half-apologetic smile on his features.

"Hel-- hello. I'm terribly sorry, do you need this table?"

"Hi," she replies, before shaking her head.

"Nope. I just thought you might want to find a bed to sleep in. It's a lot comfier than a booth."

"Oh."

Concern isn't something he's often on the receiving end of, and as a result he seems a little surprised, but pleasantly so.

"Thank you," Jekyll says, giving a small laugh. "I should.. I should be awake, anyway."

Then, putting out his hand, "Dr. Henry Jekyll, at your service."

She smiles.

"Right! I thought you looked familiar. It's been a while since I was last here, so I'm sort of reorienting myself." She takes his hand anyway. "I'm Charlotte - or Chuck, really."

There's a certain amount of mortification on his features as he realizes that he's met her already (an embarrassment that only grows as sleep starts detaching itself from him).

Post-handshake, Jekyll places both of his hands on the table, shoulders hunched over in a self-conscious sort of way.

"It's been a long time for me as well," he admits, "Long enough that my already faulty memory has grown a few more holes. It's lovely to see you again, though, Chuck.

"Would you like a seat?"

"Sure," she says cheerfully, taking the seat across from him. "It's good to see you too. I still don't know very many people here, so it's good to see a familiar face."

Leaning forward, arms crossed over the table, she gestures to the test-tubes.

"So what're those for?"

He hesitates for a single moment, but manages to stammer out a response.

"D-- do you remember what I told you, when I first came here? That I was a-- a bit of a trouble in general? It has to do with that. Trying to cure myself, so to speak."

"Cure yourself?" She frowns, looking slightly concerned. She can't help it; it's that need to take care of people thing. "I'm not sure what you mean."

Not telling isn't a option he's going to let himself take.

"A while ago, I -- I invented a potion that would, ah, split my personalities. The bad side and the good side. I hoped to do this as a way to get rid of the bad aspects of people entirely, but --"

Jekyll pauses, meeting her eyes.

"It didn't work in the way that I intended it to. You see, my body now houses two separate beings. There's me, the normal me, and there's -- there's Edward Hyde.

"He is, in a way, me, but he is -- he is much more. He's a monster. The embodiment of every single terrible thing about me. The potion allows him to take over the -- our physical form, but he's constantly in my thoughts, constantly --"

And even then, he can hear Hyde laughing, and he almost winces.

He's pretty sure the explanation was kind of shoddy.

"Oh."

It isn't shoddy so much as confusing for someone like Chuck who's never even heard of such a thing before (well, except for maybe in stories).

"That -" she pauses, finally admitting, "sounds terrible."

She glances towards the test-tubes again. "So you're trying to find a cure to ... get both of your personalities together again?"
