Sallie Reynolds is a woman on a mission, even if that mission (returning a handkerchief) seems to have hit a small snag (Joe not appearing to be around). No matter really; she could always leave it with the bar

The bar, of course, has intercepted me again as I walk from point A to point B -- point A having been a newspaper stand, where I have purchased several newspapers, and point B having been home. The bar will suit me fine. I place my small stack of newspapers on the bar top and sit on a stool, ordering a cup of coffee. I direct a nod and a grin as a greeting to the woman sitting next to me.
Sallie, herself, hasn't procured anything edible yet. She smiles at the stranger in that polite way you do when you don't know if it's worth the effort to make conversation, and continues to stare off people-watching.
Of course, newspapers like the ones Paul has are somewhat of an oddity, to the woman.
Hmm -- wonder if one can see where they're from, without making it too obvious.
The old woman extends her hand, "Sallie Reynolds, Miss Carter. Pleased to meet you. Have you figured out what the place is about yet? Met anybody interesting?"
Inara heads down from the brothel and sees a familiar face at the bar.
She's been trying to track Sallie down surrepticiously for days, ever since Mal came home with a face like thunder and refused to tell her more than Sallie had been hurt, but was fine and didn't want to be disturbed.
Cue a worried daughter-in-law innocently hanging around the one place she can legitimately find Sallie.
She puts a smile on her face as she approaches her. "Good morning, Sallie!" She tries to keep it from being too obvious that she is scanning her for injuries.

She knows that one of these days, she's likely to get busted, but she figures the benefits outweigh the risks.
There's an older woman at the bar. Zoe wonders if she'd be an easy mark to score a beer. Only one way to find out.
"Hello," she says politely, sliding onto the stool next to her.

Almost laughing -- Sallie hasn't spoken to Inara since way before her incident at home, and she's sure Mal's said something.
