Boo is amazingly gifted at sneaking away from adults when she really wants to. She's small and sneaky that way. Not that adults aren't helpful. After all, how else will she increase her sippy cup collection? (She has not discovered the wonderful generosity that is Bar ( Read more... )

Dru watches the little girl, head on one side, a wistful smile on her lips.

Boo looks up at the pale lady.

And then goes back to her singing and dancing.

Adults aren't always helpful.

That doesn't bother Dru. She likes to watch. The little girl is so full of life. So vibrant. So pure and innocent. To Dru's eyes, she seems to glow with it all. She hugs her doll closer.

She looks back at the pale lady. And glances at the doll.

Dolls are good.

She looks back at the pale person and edgeeeeeees closer to her.

She has a doll, after all.

A doll indeed. An antique china doll. A very valuable antique china doll that Dru has had for over 100 years. Even Dru realises that letting a two year old play with such a toy is not the smartest idea, so Miss Edith is put out of reach on the bar.

"Sorry, precious, not for you."

Her face falls. This Pale Lady is not nice.

She frowns at her and begins to sniffle.

Tears will be forthcoming.

Dru looks like a rabbit in headlights in the face of forthcoming tears. Bar, however, takes over and a plushy doll - soft, snuggable and most importantly unbreakable - appears on the surface. It looks almost like Miss Edith. Dru snatches it up and timidly olds it out to Boo.

Boo blinks at it several times.

And after a long pause, reaches for the new doll cautiously.

Dru is relieved that, for the moment, the tears seem to have been halted. She gently hands the doll over to Boo.

"Take care of her, precious... She's needs a mummy to look after her."

Boo hugs her new doll to her chest and grins at the Pale Lady.

Maybe she's not so mean.
