There is a
thick-hided Indian unicorn, or rhinokeros, in the bar room when Teja comes down this morning; in addition, there are people with very bewildered looks on their faces, a
bird, a very
strange mouse, and other oddities. It must be one of those days!
To avoid undignified shape-shifting, Teja turns around without setting one foot in the bar itself, and goes back upstairs. He can live on water, can't he, and maybe something roasted on the hearth- or forge fire? Fish from the lake, and maybe even the demonic rabbits would be edible. And in the woods, there might be the first fresh wild herbs.
So, Teja carefully cuts up two bedsheets, twists them, and ties them into a sturdy rope, which he uses to abseil from his window right to the back area, where he may go stalk some small prey and find his own food without giving the bar a chance of turning him into something undignified. Teja has no problem, even, at abseiling in his cloak and armour, and with his axe on his back. Half-way down, though, the rope breaks, and Teja plummets the rest of the way to the ground -- but he deftly lands on his hands and feet, like a cat.
That is, he realises when he tries to get up, because he is one. His plans to escape the mayhem, it seems, misfired: - the day's strange magic has again given him the shape that Yrael once designed for him!
So there is now a small, displeased and entirely black tomcat staring at the back door, wanting to be let back in!!
