The Lady Tere recognizes her own when she sweeps down the stairs and she approaches the young castrato.

For his part, Tonio sees only a beautiful woman with poise and elegance to rival that of any performer he has ever seen. He is impressed - it shows.

"Signore. Signorina. Bella. Buongiorno."

Tonio laughs, lightly, and being who she is, Tere will of course be able to hear that even his laugh is musical, let alone his speaking voice. And when he sings - well. When he sings, it is very clear to anyone that there are very few mortals who are this thoroughly hers, before she has even laid one delicate finger on them.

"You are very astute, signorina," he says. "Have we met before? You seem familiar. . ."

"Not...corporeally. We are acquainted, though I think."

She slides gracefully onto a stool, her full deep blue skirts cascading around her.

"We are?" He asks, thoughtfully, head cocked to one side as he inspects her.

"You have me at a disadvantage, I am afraid."

He would remember anyone as striking as her.

She shrugs equitably, the faintest hint of a mischievous smile lurking at the corners of her lovely mouth.

"It happens a lot, you shouldn't let it distress you."

"I am Tonio - Marc Antonio Treschi but please, call me Tonio."

"Piacevole, Tonio. Those who meet me here know me as the Lady Tere."

"A pleasure to meet you," he says, inclining in his head in a motion that manages to hint at a curtsey rather than a bow. After all, he is wearing a dress.

Tere appreciates that the boy doesn't ask what other people call her. Her true name will come up in time.

He would never be so rude - one does not press a lady about matters she does not wish to reveal, after all.

"Are you here often?" he enquires, after a momentary pause.

"When the urge strikes. More now than before, less than previously."

Tonio chuckles at that, rather vague, answer.

"But you come and go as you please, that would imply," he observes. "You have some control over whether a door will lead you here? For myself, I never know when a door will lead here instead of where I expect it to."

"I do, yes. It's difficult to bind some things. And my family has a tendency to appear when and where we wish."

"How lucky for you," he says, impishly. "Some of us do not have that luxury - I am most jealous, signorina."
