Barbara gordon has averaged only a few hours of sleep a night for the past week, but the grin on her face as her fingers stop moving across her keyboard in trimphant stillness suggests that it's been worth it. She hits one last key before rolling over to the front door and opening it. She simply sits there, looking through the doorway into her ( Read more... )

Guppy doesn't technically need either.

But because Babs appears to be asleep, he gently puts a blanket over her. People who sleep in the bar should be helped to rest comfortably, he thinks.

At the first hint of touch, Barbara's eyes snap open and she tenses suddenly. Then she sees who it is and where she is and she relaxes just a bit. "Hello, doctor."

Guppy jumps back. Babs should be able to see that there's a small cut on his cheek, behind his hair, but that it's not bothering him much.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."

"What'd you do to your cheek?" she asks before she's awake enough to bury her natural curiosity.

"Hm? Oh, it's okay, I got caught in a scuffle at work yesterday." He fidgets.

"Coworker or patient?" Barbara asks with a small disapproving shake of her head.

"A whole wedding fight. I got hit whilst pulling a patient out of the way." Small sigh. "It's always a shame, but we get one every few weeks to months, sometimes more often."

Guppy nods.

This doesn't seem to go down that well. Guppy sits down and puts his head in his hands.

Barbara's hand reaches out to settle gently on his shoulder, "I'm sorry." That he gets hit, that she made fun of it. "Sometimes that's just how life goes. Especially if you're doing a dangerous job."

Guppy takes a deep breath and looks up.

"My therapist thinks I should transfer to geriatrics." he says quietly, embarrassment in his voice. Not because he thinks care of the elderly is an embarrassing career, more the thought of not being able to handle his current job.

"Three and a half years."
