Dennis doesn't spot the notice, when he first arrives in Milliways tonight. It's not til he wanders Bar-wards that he spots the cardboard sign, and his face takes on a decided greenish tinge. His attention goes from the sign to the large board filled with innumerable names and types of currency. Dennis squints at the small type, getting up on

This is about the time that Gordon spots the notice, having just come downstairs.

"Ahh, shit."

You don't even want to know how much he owes.

Dennis is whistling tunelessly through his teeth, still working on that pint.

He'll look up in a minute, we swear.

[goonandrun]

Gordon stares at the notice for a good five more minutes before sitting down heavily on a bar stool.

"What's free and alcoholic?"

[fatboyrun]

"Um," says Dennis, and he looks up.

"I'm going to have to go with 'nothing,' Gordon."

[goonandrun]

He pulls a face, apparently not yet realizing that Dennis is not technically supposed to be behind the bar.

"Why?"

[fatboyrun]

"How many places do you know serve free alcoholic drinks?"

And why hasn't he introduced Dennis to them?

[goonandrun]

Gordon opens his mouth to say something, and then shuts it again.

"Good point. What're you doing back there?"

[fatboyrun]

Dennis shrugs one shoulder. "I wanted a drink."

Also, he fell.

That's the part that doesn't need to be repeated.

"I think I'm the bartender."

[goonandrun]

"You think? How does that work?"

Beat.

"Do you get money for it?"

[fatboyrun]

"Somebody tipped me," says Dennis, and he grins.

[goonandrun]

"Really? How much?"

"...Uh," says Dennis, and he fishes in his pocket. "This much." He holds up the strange coin that a girl had left him earlier.

[goonandrun]

Gordon stares at it in a way that suggests he is not entirely impressed.

"What is that."

[fatboyrun]

"I dunno," Dennis admits. "But I figure if I stay back here long enough, somebody'll tip me with real money.

"You want anything?"

Not that he thinks that Gordon'll have the money to buy a drink, much less tip him. But you never know.

"I -- don'thaveanymoney."

"Yeah," says Dennis, resigned, "but how much is another couple of quid gonna hurt your tab?"

Dennis knows how Gordon's mind works. Will work, eventually. Presumably.
