X, wearing jeans and a tank top (hush, she's trying to 'blend in'), is seated at the bar.
The remains of a meal are in front of her.
She's got one iPod earbud in her ear, and she's frowning a little as she listens to music.
Blame the lyrics.
She is having trouble with metaphors.

When his gaze lands on her, though, it becomes quite a bit less idle. He blinks, then stares. It's a bad habit.

It's a little . . . scorched.
She turns, shoulders tense, expression impassive.
Beat.
"Hello."
Reply
"Sorry if I was staring. I don't think about it till it's too late."
He laughs, but it sounds a little forced.
Reply
"I do not mind."
Beat.
"You do not smell right."
He doesn't sound right, either.
She is still wary.
Reply
"Not human, I mean."
He's glimpsed her around the bar before now; he figures he's not the first non-human she's encountered. Or the first who was honest enough to say so.

"You are not a mutant."
Unless he is not from her world.
She is not sure.

Whatever the hell that means.
"Angel. Have you heard of those?"
Reply
"Oh."
Beat.
"Yes. But you are not wearing robes."

Then--
"What is your mission?"
She only has a few contexts for the word 'disguise'.
Reply
"Well, uh. My function is Vengeance, if that's what you mean."
Maybe it comes out a little easier when he's talking to another killer.

X does not blink. She does not seem very disturbed at all.
"I am a weapon, too."
Reply
"And do you have a mission?"
He's not sure he wants to know, but it seems only polite.
Reply
"I did."
Many times.

She blinks, expression impassive.
"I protect people."
