Bumblebee doesn't particularly notice the sign on the Bar about tabs when he comes in. The Autobots and Captain Lennox have their expenses covered by that chunk of platinum that Prime dropped off with Bar early on, after all. No, he's heading outside today. As appealing as the rafters are, the dust is sort of getting old by now

There is a very small child, wrapped in a cloak, sitting in a tree, watching him.

Intently.

The concept of non-organic life isn't alien to him. Corporeal non-organic life, so clearly made of metal... very much is.

After a couple of scans of the ice and some tentative pokes with one foot, Bumblebee finally gives up on it for now. As he turns away from the lake he notices the small human, and waves in greeting.

It's kind of annoying to be this short sometimes, but he can deal with it around kids a litlte better.

Hao waves back, tiny hand moving with more precision than most small children would have.

"I've never seen anything like you before."

"Many people haven't," says Bumblebee in return. "People from Earth, anyway. I come from a world of machines."

"And yet you're alive," he replies. "You're not like the machines I've seen, those cars, and computers, and moving doorways."

"All life on my homeworld is machine life," says Bumblebee. "It was a surprise to us to first encounter organic life such as yourself. There's nothing like it on Cybertron."

"Is Cybertron very far from Earth then?"

[prob_japanese]

"Ten thousand Earth years' worth of travel between the two," Bumblebee says. "Or maybe a little less, since it wasn't a direct trip, but in the end it works out to about the same thing."

"That... is a very great distance," Hao murmurs, his eyes going unconsciously to the sky as he contemplates it.

"Oh, yes," says Bumblebee, "and my people are living on Earth now- well, some of us, anyway. Where the others are, we don't know."

"I take it you have no way of locating them?" he extrapolates.

[prob_japanese]

"The distance they've scattered over would take even longer to search," says Bumblebee. "Although our leader's sent out a signal to any other Autobots who may be surviving among the stars. If they hear it, they'll come."

"I haven't introduced myself, have I? My name is Bumblebee."

"A good name," he replies, smiling faintly. "I am Hao."

"Thank you," says Bumblebee, and bows a little. "It's nice to meet you, Hao. Are you new here?"

"Yes and no," Hao replies. "This is the first time I have been here in this lifetime. But I have been here before."

The mech's head tilts in a gesture of curiosity. "In this lifetime? Have you been dead before? I"m not sure how that works for humans."
