Ace is humming.

Ace is humming off key and softly enough that she probably can't be heard from too far away, in a distracted fashion that suggests that she doesn't consciously realize she is humming, which is too bad, because if she did, she'd stop. Incoming hyperactive green kid!

"Ooh, whatcha makin'? Is it a weapon or a media player or a toy or a communicator? Hey, cocoa!"

"Yes, no, yes, yes, an' not yours." Ace replies in an equally rapid-fire method. The green doesn't phase her too much - some of her best friends are Trees.

"I couldn't drink it anyway, I can't drink matter. It's a weapon and a toy? Cool! What's it do? Dot always useta say 'That's not a toy!' 'bout anything dangerous, but she can't do that anymore."

Ace has a very, very strict rule about teaching kids about boom:

She won't.

It doesn't matter if the kid in question is an uber-genius or green or whatever. She still won't teach kids about boom.

"Lots of toys are dangerous. The ones with lead paint, for example - bloody lethal, those are."

Ace has no such rule about swearing in front of kids.

"What's lead paint?"

"Paint." Ace replies, by way of explanation. "With lead in."

It's a perfectly fine explanation to her!

"For painting heavy stuff?" Enzo asks dubiously.

Ace gives him a look that accurately translates to: 'Out of Cheese Error. Reboot Universe and Try Again'.
"Whut?" She says, instead of accurately translating her expression.

"Never mind. Why's it dangerous?"

[nitro_is_ace]

"... Because it's lots of lead, what flakes off an' can be eaten? What with lots of lead not bein' a good thing, an' all." Ace is a pyro, not a doctor - she doesn't have to have good bedside manner.

"...why would someone eat paint?" Because Enzo is 10 and totally mature and would never have done something that silly even when he was little, of course.

"Why would people eat pennies an' legos an' such?" Ace shrugs. "The universe is a very strange place."

"Uh-huh," says Enzo, choosing not to mention to the time when Dot had to interrupt Dad's tutorial to inform him that her baby brother had ingested an underclocking command and needed to go to the hospital.

"So what's that do? I won't touch it."

"Does things I make it do." Ace replies, tugging at one of the loose wires. "An' hopefully nothin' I'm not tryin' t'make it do."
