[OOM: Before a startling proclamation is read, Jon informs his champion of its contents. She definitely approves.]

Having a dream come true is wonderful.

Having another dream come true might be an embarrassment of riches, Alanna thinks as she shoves open the door with her shoulder, wearing full court dress and a distinctly smug smile. (Or, if ( Read more... )

Adam, in her absense had gotten a little... well, let's not say "bored." With three small children around, it's not really possible to be bored. But restless is a good word in its place, at least.

It's possible he's spent the last few hours in their room at the bar, playing Guitar Hero. Possible.

But when he comes out to the bar proper and sees Alanna there, he wraps himself around her, with a giant grin.

Full contact with another person is startling, though Alanna doesn't think to simply turn her head or throw him off. Frowning, she pushes at the arms holding her close.

Rather nice arms, but still unexpected arms.

"Oof. Get off me."

She twists at the waist, catching sight of a familiar set of eyes.

"Oh."

Her smile is slow and full of teeth.

"You're drunk, aren't you?" He eyes her carefully, and then the hand. "Need a hand?"

He laughs a little -- it's possible there was far too much sugar ingested during the Guitar Hero marathon.

What, he can't do it here, where he's not being a bad influence on the kids? He gives her a kiss on the cheek and flops onto a nearby stool, and a water appears on the bar.

"Just in?"

"Drunk?"

There's an innocent, questioning look sent his way.

"Yes." She waits a moment, then adds, "From the palace."

"Where's Grace?"

"I left her to fend for herself in the woods, with the wolves.

"I thought it would be character building."

The fact that she takes this in stride is a testament to her faith in Adam... or to the strength of the wine. Possibly both.

"I don't like wolves. She probably won't, either," Alanna warns. "They're sneaky and smell strange."

She was stuck under one once. It leaves an impression, and she considers her opinion informed.

"She'll need a sword." Her eyes light, like this is just reinforcing one of her mad schemes.

"Will a butter knife do? I didn't want her to hurt herself."

He winks at her.

"I'm serious, Adam."

Very serious. She scowls, leaning closer.

"We have to get her a sword. A small one to start, of course, for training, but definitely a sword."

And then she smiles again, suddenly delighted that he's here.

. . . uh, "Okay, we can get her a sword. As soon as you're sober."

Another kiss.

"What's got you in such a good mood?"

"Jon didn't tell you?" she shoots back suspiciously.

Alanna doesn't like it when people know things and she doesn't.

"I haven't spoken to Jon in weeks."

An eyebrow raised.

"What?"

"Oh, good."

Rather than explaining immediately, she throws both arms around his neck, partially losing her balance, and presses a thoroughly inappropriate kiss to his lips.

"Jon and Thayet have proclaimed that girls are legally allowed to train for knighthood," she continues, returning to her seat as if nothing had happened.

"That's..."

Adam gets up, and goes over to her to kiss her back.

"That's fantastic!"

"No," she disagrees, smiling hugely, "that's fantastic."

It's all about inflection, apparently.

"I can't wait."

Apparently. But who is Adam to argue with a tipsy wife?

"And I see you've started the celebration without me."

A wise husband, that's who he is.

"Jon's fault," she beams. "And Gary and Raoul. I think they thought I would need liquid protection from the rumors and outraged glares. But my skin is thick about this subject, and my pride is great."
