There were easier fish-snacks to get than the Curious Squid and the trilobites, and not too far off at that.
Lehi, usually called Ana, had, apparently, succeeded in catching a few fish from the ice-cold lake. Just at the moment he was settled at one of the small tables near the tank to clean them.
Normally, he would never eat that, or indeed beg in this manner -- but now, the black cat that isn't one gobbles up the small gift before the human mind inside even registers what happened.
He couldn't help but smile again at that, finally peering over the edge of the table at the cat, "Well hello yourself." And that smile just spread, "You want some more? There's plenty if you come get it."
It wasn't that much of a jump really, and there was another chair if he couldn't get right to the tabletop.
And another smile, "Very nice." He scraped some of the innards together, sliding them to the edge of the workboard, "Don't want to have too much more than that or you'll get sick."
Another smile, shaking his head and scritching under the cat's chin, "Ah well, the place is always changing, people come and go and it's a cold day in hell when anything is exactly what it seems around here."
A wink, "If you don't know that already, cat, you'll learn it pretty fast."
There was another warm chuckle at that, scritching all the way down his neck to his chest, Lehi knew how these things worked, "Really, I suppose the question is whether you belong to someone, or you wandered in on your own."
A pause to think about this, "Or whether you're usually someone else." A one-shouldered shrug, still scritching, "Seems those are the most likely scenarios."
He could answer, but there would be just one answer - the truth. And he wants to be merely a cat just now. Not do the whole introduction, all those long human sentences.
His head tilted, one brow arching, then he laughed, shaking his head and scratching up behind the cat's ears, "Doesn't much matter right now though does it? You are who you are and it's no matter if you're the only one who knows it."

The delightful smell!
The black cat sits by the table, sucks in the incredible scent with slightly open mouth, and ponders hopping up there.

There was a small smile, and then splat a small, somewhat sticky, lump of fish innards hit the floor.

He jumps up lightly, and sniffs at the fish innards.

Ooooh, fish liver!

He waited until the cat was finished before holding out his fingers, "Don't think I've seen you around before."

He cannot say anything without giving himself away.
