"Should I ask about the singing?" Beatriz Barillo a.k.a. Ajedrez asks, resting her elbows on the Bar's top.

Wes grins.

"Oh, you'll hear soon enough, I'm sure. The place seems to be going through one of its musical phases."

She grins back.

"Ah, Milliways."

"Wouldn't trade it," Wes says, shaking his head.

"What can I get you?"

"Tequila, please. Long day about to get longer."

"Sounds like fun," he says wryly, pouring her drink. "The long days should be the good ones, I think, but they rarely are."

"Try single-parenting and running and international company at the same time." She shudders, and the tequila is tossed back.

Wes pretends to consider, then shakes his head with mock regret.

"Nope, I have to say, I think I'll skip both of those and take your word for it. Things tend to explode when I'm in charge of anything."
