When Liz treks out to the shed in her slippers, she expects to find Shaun and Ed playing video games.

Instead, she finds a pub.

A pub.

"This isn't funny, Shaun," she says, standing in the doorway with a half bewildered, half annoyed look on her face.

... at least it's not the Winchester.

There's a sort of high-pitched chokey sort of noise from across the room.

"I DIDN'T DO IT."

This is more of an ingrained reflex than an actual response.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?" she bellows. Several patrons turn their heads to her and she shoots all of them a what are you looking at?! look.

They quickly divert their gazes.

That tone of voice always makes him want to whimper and hide under the table like a puppy that's just chewed up its owner's most expensive shoes. Instead, he gives her a halfhearted smile and wave.

"... Surprise?"

[zombiequeenliz]

"Surprise?" she repeats, starting toward him. "This, Shaun -- this --"

FLAIL.

"Where are we?"

[got_red]

"Okay, first, calm down."

He takes her hand, leading her toward a relatively quiet booth.

"Second... it's a pub. And the end of the universe. And I swear I'm not making this up."

"... of course not," she says flatly.

"Because we all have magic portals to the end of the universe in our sheds, right?"

"Um. Look over there."

Contrary to appearances, this isn't an attempt to distract her from whatever stupid thing he's just done. (At least not this time.) He's pointing in the direction of the window.

She looks.

"... what is that, Shaun?"

[got_red]

... There's really nothing he can do to make this sound less insane.

"The end of the universe."

[zombiequeenliz]

It's at that moment that something dawns on her.

She slowly turns her head to look back at him.

"... you're serious."

It's not a question.

[got_red]

He nods silently.

[zombiequeenliz]

With a quick glance back to the Window, all words leave her.

Zombies were one thing. The end of the UNIVERSE? That's something entirely different.

He stays quiet, letting her take it all in.

After a moment, he reached over and grabs her hand.

She squeezes it.

"Why -- why didn't you tell me?"

[got_red]

"Would've gone over great, huh? 'Half the people you know are dead, there's a zombie living in your garden, and oh, by the way, I found a pub at the end of the universe.'"

Another shaky smile.

[zombiequeenliz]

"... yeah," she says after a bit of silence. "Yeah, I guess you're right. How long have you been coming here? Ed's not here too, is he?"
