Maria hasn't gone outside of Milliways much, but after her talk with Sarah Jane, she finds it better to be away from the Bar and its stifling atmosphere at the moment. And she doesn't want to go back home right now, either. So she's lying on her back on the cold ground, watching her breath come in white puffs above her, and resting her hands on her

"It's totally going to snow soon," says a cheerful blonde girl, camera in hand. She snaps a quick photo of the girl on the ground, still grinning brightly. "Which means it's almost Christmas. And Death giving out presents, which I'm definitely going to document this year."

Maria is suddenly very confused. Someone snaps a picture of her, and then...Death giving out presents?

"Um...what?" She looks at the girl. "Death gives out presents?"

[torch_reporter]

"Yeah. I asked him for something to use to communicate with my boyfriend when he's back in D.C. and I'm in Smallville, but it didn't work." Chloe shrugs. Apparently, she doesn't mind that very much. "He totally goes with the whole wig and hat theme, too."

"O-kaaaay," Maria chuckles a bit. "Um. I've seen much weirder, actually. And not in Milliways."

She lays her hands in the grass, liking the cold at the moment. "Why did you take my picture, anyway?"

Chloe just grins brighter at that. Weird is definitely up her ally.

"I'm putting together a scrapbook for my boyfriend. He's kind of Bound right now, so I figure every little reminder of why he's stuck in an awesome place helps."

"Oh," Maria says quietly.

This doesn't seem like such an awesome place to her at the moment. Then again, it's better than home, too.

"Well...that's nice of you."

[torch_reporter]

"Thanks," Chloe answers as she holds out a hand. "Chloe Sullivan, by the way. You are?"

Maria hesitates a moment. She's usually very friendly, she just doesn't know what to make of a stranger at the moment. Then again, she has met some nice people here.

So she shakes the girl's hand. "Maria Jackson. Nice to meet you, Chloe."

Then she folds her hands across her stomach again.

"Likewise." Chloe crosses her arms over her chest, looking down at the girl. It's way too cold to sit right now. "Are you new here?"

[not_on_her_own]

"No," is her simple reply.

Maybe I should never have come here.

[torch_reporter]

Chloe nods. "So how long have you been coming then?"

[not_on_her_own]

"Um...I guess about a month now. It seemed sort of fun and, like, a good place to get away from life sometimes."

[torch_reporter]

"Yeah," Chloe agrees. "Sound like the right assessment."

[not_on_her_own]

Maria gets a little tetchy all of a sudden, though not at Chloe.

"Well, it was a bloody stupid idea, really."

[torch_reporter]

"Why?"

[not_on_her_own]

"Because my best friend -- I found her here. She's sort of different from the one in my universe, but she's still the same to me."

Maria sighs. "And I've just mucked it all up. I think I'm just a bother."
