Nita discovered tonight, for the first time, that there's an inlet of seawater in the lake. And there are certain

(stories)

connections, for Nita, to the Sea. It almost demands exploration.

The lake is cold this time of year, but the inlet is oddly warmer than the rest. Nita has reason to know -- she's been swimming back and forth between the spot where the fresh water turns salty for a few minutes now, fascinated. The change is immense in this shape.

This shape being a humpback whale.

(There are almost invisible white scars on the underside of her lateral fins, and matching ones on her belly. Some things are too much a part of you to ever really go away.)
