Today they are not muddy. Uncomfortable, varying degrees of "wet", upset, and tired, yes. All of these things are true. Muddy is not.
Lissar can say, with some certainty, that Wells has probably not drowned in any of the near parts of the lake. She is in, with a pause for towels, to plan her next expedition. She will wrap the whole of the way around the lake. She has been told it is, in fact, a lake and not an ocean. This means that, eventually, if she follows it long enough she should return.
For now, though, she and the damp, unhappy dogs will get supper. (Assuming none of them falls asleep in the food.)
