She cups it in both of her hands and hums something soft and quick, and little dots of light begin to appear within the ball. As they begin to take shape they take the form of a wolf.
"The spirit of a wolf," she explains. "It is not trapped, do not worry -- but with this, you will be able to have the undying spirit by your side, even when there is no full moon."
The star-wolf, which is strikingly detailed in blue-white light, is running.
"No," she says, admiring her work with a small smile. "Through this you will simply have the spirit of the wolf by your side."
The wolf stops running and sits, licking at his paw.
"I would say he may offer you guidance but I'm not sure he realizes he's a spirit guide, yet," she laughs, tapping on the ball. The wolf looks up toward her, then continues grooming.
"This is a real, true spirit, you see. Somewhere in the world, this wolf actually, physically exists."
What's all this, then?
"Celebrating something?"

It takes even less time for him to recognise that voice he knows so well.
"Birthday. Bar says it's my birthday today."
Try not to laugh too hard at the My Little Pony-themed cake, please?

She peers at the cake, inspecting it.
"And you are celebrating it with... pink horses?"
Reply
Bar somehow manages to look smug while agreeing.
"Presumably to cheer me up now that I'm..." How old? Oh right. "...forty-one."
Reply
"Rabastan, dear, you're practially a child compared to me," she laughs. "Why didn't you tell me your birthday was approaching?"
Reply
"I ... must have forgot. I lose track of time now and then."
Which is true. In Azkaban there's nothing to mark the passing of time with.
Reply
"Well, I will have to think of a gift for you!"
Beat.
"I may have just the thing," she says, scurrying to Bar and returning with a clear glass ball.
Reply
"Crystal ball. What I never had and always needed."
Well. Why not? It could be useful.
"How does it work?"
Reply
"It's not what you think it is. Here --"

"Through this I can access the full moon whenever I wish."
Isn't that what Asar-Suti's ring was for?
Must work differently.
Star-wolf. Lupus. If he knew who Leo Minor was she might say that the wolf in the sphere was Lupus. Or a small fragment of Lupus.
"And change outside the moon?"
However it works it's pretty.

"It does?"
Should he go and find it?

He looks at the orb with its wolf.
Memorising the way it looked.
To find it you need to know what you're looking for.
