Shiori walks in looking distracted and carrying a number of books on the art of making kimono. When she realizes where she is, she heads for a table near the fire and sets her books down. That being completed, she heads over to the bar to negotiate. After a few minutes of talking, she returns to her table carrying several lengths of silk in sunset

It's got Munch curious, that's for sure.

"Got big plans for all of that?" he asks casually.

Shiori looks up and smiles. "Yes, I'm making a kimono and obi for a friend. She's been living in America for some time now, so I thought it might be nice for her to have some traditional garments after having to wear Western clothing for so long." She looks more closely at Munch and covers her mouth in dismay. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course," she adds hurriedly.

"Never said there was," he replies.

She flushes a little. "I'm sorry, that was terribly rude of me." She bows to him from her chair. "I'm Shiori, Shiori Takatsuki. I apologize if I offended you, Mister...?" She trails off.

"Detective," he corrects. "I'm John Munch; I'm a detective with the New York City police deparment. And you didn't offend me, don't worry."

She nods. "Detective, then. It must be interesting to live in such a large city," she remarks wistfully. "I used to live in Tokyo, but now I live on the school grounds. I miss it a great deal."

"Oh, it can be," Munch remarks dryly, thinking about some of the more 'interesting' sides to his job.

"What school do you attend?"

"Ohtori Academy. It's a private school, and fairly prestigious. There's also a sister school in Amsterdam, although I've never been there." She brushes the blue silk in a distracted manner.

"Sounds interesting," he comments. Munch notices how she touches the material, but doesn't say anything. It could be meaningless.

Shiori shrugs. "It's just school." She notices that she's stroking the fabric, and casually folds her hands in front of her on the table. "I'm a little nervous about how this is going to turn out. I haven't spoken to my friend for any great length of time since our parents found out about us. They sent her away to live with an aunt... I'm hoping that she'll accept the kimono and obi if not as a token of affection, then at least as a gift from a close friend. I'm worried."

"That her feelings might have changed?" Munch guesses.

She sighs. "That's part of it, I guess. The other part is that she might still feel the same, but not be the same. What if I don't feel the same about her?"

"Well, it's been my experience that you can't really force something that isn't there." Trust him; he's got the multiple failed marriages to prove it. "But, you probably really won't know for sure until you sit down and talk with her. A real talk."
