There's a teenage boy sitting splayed on a couch, looking like today is the funniest thing he's seen in weeksHe's fairly short for a boy: compact, solidly muscled, but short. Despite that, he's sitting like he has a pair of basketballs in his pants, and he's laughing at pretty nearly everyone who passes ( Read more... )

There's a teenage girl entering the bar from outside, her leathers a little wet until she flicks a hand - and several surrounding people with the water that flies free. Katara apologizes, but it's not too sincere since she's grinning. It's been a good day so far, and beautiful outside, and she'd been playing in the lake which makes everything better.

Now is the time to slide up to the bar, humming softly to herself and deciding this day is even better when Bar surprises her with a milkshake.

There's a boy coming up beside her, grinning, looking terribly amused.

"Hi, there."

Butter wouldn't melt in this mouth. No, for real.

Katara could make it not melt - if she froze his mouth shut.

Right now, she's busy on making her own mouth cold, drinking her shake from a straw and making a small, surprised noise when she's greeted. "Hi," she says easily, smiling.

Once the chocolate's taken care of, anyway.

It's a rather familiar innocent smile, and it's coupled with dancing blue eyes, but Stephen thinks it's hilarious that people don't recognise him just because of the lack of boobs and long hair, and he's totally making the most of it.

"So," he says, deep-voiced and lazy and grinning. "It's been a while since I've seen you around."

Naturally a very friendly girl herself, Katara can't help but blink at the voice, the smile, the eyes. There's something familiar and something very, very...

Off.

"Do I know you?" she asks after a few beats of staring. "I don't think I've seen you."

"Oh, you could say we're ... sort of close," Stephen says casually, and leans back against the Bar, teeth in his bottom lip to stop his grin escaping right off his face.

"...you really have no idea who I am? Oh, Katara." Sad, sad Stephen! So totally crestfallen! ... really! "How could you forget me?"

Katara's not sure what to feel now: confused and angry that he's teasing her, or guilty and vaguely ashamed that she's forgotten someone she's apparently close to. "Uhm... well..."

It's the play at sadness that finally clicks it all together in Katara's brain, that look that she's seen so many times as a certain best friend tried to convince her that she's ruined her life - over fifty times. And still, it takes her a moment of frowning and leaning in to squint before Katara very carefully ventures, ".......Steph?"

The enormous grin gives it away.

"How cool is this?" Steph/en demands, beaming at her, and reaches out to pull her into a hug. "Look, I have stubble!"

The stubble is totally exciting. Weird, but cool. It's like her cheeks grow stuff!

"Ahh! You do and it's weird!" Katara can't help but grin, though, with Steph/en so excited, leaning back to look her over. It's weird to have her arms around a boy that isn't related to her somehow or Jet, but it's easy to take the /en off of Steph.

Especially when s/he grins like that.

"What happened to you? Oh, Steph, you didn't do this to yourself somehow, did you? The fun of it will wear off eventually and you complain enough as it is."

"Ah, it'll wear off," Stephen says, still grinning, arms around her still. "Wow, it's weird holding you when I'm a boy."

She lets go after a moment, to touch her own cheeks again. "There were some mints that were changing people. It didn't look like it hurt, and you know, I always wondered what it was like to be a boy..."

"You're finally taller than someone," Katara teases her with a laugh, holding onto her arms. "You are so weird."

"...and what is it like?"

Stephen settles his hands on her hips, grinning at her. "...tall...ish," he says, stretching to make the most of the scant few inches. "And I have dangly bits, and really great upper-body strength, and stubble ... but I miss my boobs."

Katara tries very hard not to continue laughing, even as her face turns a little pink from the idea of dangly bits. "They were very nice boobs," she says instead, mournful and solemn as she pats Steph gently on the shoulder. "If you ever get them back, I'm sure you'll appreciate them more now."

"Don't say if," Stephen orders, gasping for shock -- or maybe that's just laughter again. "Everyone else is so pissed about this, they'll find a cure real quick. Besides ... even if I don't get them back, I'll just take advantage of yours instead."

He wiggles his eyebrows at her, draping an arm over her shoulder and stealing her milkshake with the other one.

Smirking, Katara elbows Steph in the stomach, stealing her shake back with her other hand. "These happen to be off-limits boobs," she informs her friend loftily, sticking out her chest-- and pausing.

It's probably best not to add that the addition of shochu can apparently change those limits.

"...anyway, what are you going to do if they find a cure and you're not ready yet? What if it's a change-back-now-or-never-again sort of thing?"

"I'm definitely changing back!" Stephen says, with a slightly feminine squeak to his voice at the end there. "This is fun for a day, but no way am I going without all the good bits for ever."
