It's his greeting that shakes her out of her thoughts. Focus tends to come with battle experience, where the difference between being attentive and being distracted is often death one way or the other.
She turns to him, stopping her staff in mid-strike, and lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding.
Wizard's never been in a battle that required him to be any good with anything other than an enchanted stick of wood, so if he ever ends up being conscripted they'll send him out into battle with a body bag attached.
"I didn't know you knew weapons," he says, looking at the staff.
She nods and wipes her brow with the back of her hand.
"I've known how to use a staff since I was little. Ghaleon trained me in it along with my magic training. There are enough monsters that are impervious to magic and enough ways for magic to be sealed that most everyone at the Magic Guild learns at least one non-magic weapon."
She's very focused. Her form is much smoother than before, and her agility is better now that she's in more suitable clothing, but people who know their stuff can tell it's been a while since she's done this.
She catches her breath, not that she had really lost it.
"The staff is only a secondary skill to my magic, even if I've studied both pretty much since I was a child. It's just in case my magic is ever useless."
He saw her, but didn't approach. Instead, there were layered enchantments. Glittery sparkles gently raining down, and clouds tinged in multiple colors now on the ground all around her. And a chorus of brightly colored birds singing.
Illusionary enchantments that were pretty even as they would eventually fade.
A paper bird with a message saying simply, "I miss you."
But the creator of it all was hidden in the trees.

As is becoming habitual, the moment he becomes distracted his shot flies wide. Concentration will be a priority item with his lessons.
"Hello?"

She shrugs a little.
"Not that my magic is exactly sealed anymore."

Hey, what is that? The Plain Common Guy is carrying a sword. And even carrying it like he knows how to not cut himself with it!

Not bad, though.
Get her attention and maybe she'll spar with you.

"Not really. I'm out of practice."

"How long have you been training?"

It's the shape. He just can't help it.

"Now which one are you?" she asks without missing a motion or looking down. "Yrael, Puss, Howl, or Kyo?"

"It truly hurts me, Mia, that you would consort with so many others that you cannot even remember which one I am."

A brief, scornful look that fades as she continues.
"Apparently Draco Malfoy thought that was his job."

She stops and idly wipes the sweat from her hands onto her jeans.
Muggle clothes aren't bad at all.
She smiles a little. No matter what, this was still so very like him.
"I miss you too," she says.
And her hand covers her eyes, the better to hide her tears.
