He'd been blissfully ignoring the date, refusing to acknowledge it at all. As far as he was concerned, it was just another day.

He went to the bar to get a sandwich, nothing special. Except along side the dinner platter, a cake appeared, with numeral candles displaying 48, and the words Happy Birthday Greg written out in blue icing. He growled at ( Read more... )

"Happy birthday." Says a young man nearby with a grin. "Not happy?"

"Not many good memories." Greg shrugs.

"All the more reason to have a better one this time."

"After a while, they all kind of blend together. It's just another day."

A small smile.

"I'm sorry." He moves over from his table to where House is. "At least you have this place. Can't say things are always the same day after day here. I mean, how many people in your home world get to travel to the other end of the universe?"

"A few, actually." He shrugged. "Not that I've seen any of them for a while. Who knows. Maybe they all went back home."

A shrug. "Happens around here. Meet more."

He extends a hand. "Dr Guppy Sandhu, nice to meet you."

"Guppy? Your parents are either hippies or just down right cruel." Greg took his hand. "Greg House."

A smirk as he shakes the hand. "It's short for Gurpreet." Though, come to think of it, they were pretty cruel.

Searching his memory for a moment. "I think I've met one of your colleagues. Dr... Wilson?"

Greg nods. "Yeah. He's...around. Sometimes. How long ago did you talk to him?"

"Couple of months, at a guess. I've only spoken to him a couple of times. You're a doctor too, right?"

House's outlook on life, as a fellow medic, seems a little odd to him. It's not that he's over-idealistic; some days when he's had a couple of patients trying to beat him up or he's run himself to near exhaustion he wonders why the hell he still does the job. But every day the same?

Maybe he's a dermatologist or something. I guess skin would get less interesting with time.

"Yeah." Greg sipped his drink. "Diagnostics." It wasn't the same every day, not by a long shot. The problem was, as long as he was bound in the bar, he didn't have ay cases. No puzzles to solve.

[OOC: No worries! Sleep well!]

Possibly he isn't looking hard enough; there are certainly some cases.

"Accident and Emergency." Guppy says. "ER." he adds, noting the accent. "In a rather rough area of Britain."

"Sounds exciting. ER's a happening place." Just not his interest. While there was an urgency, at times, there weren't often puzzles to solve.

Guppy is fortunate to be in a department that gets the odd puzzle. For example, Holby city hospital is the only one in the UK to have dealt with pufferfish poisoning.

He smiles a little. "Yes, it is. Busy though, and as I said, rough at times. But I enjoy working there most of the time."

Greg nodded. "My hospital makes the doctors work clinic hours. That's enough of a reason to stay here."
