Why is Kira, a girl of general bubbly nature, thinking such grim thoughts? It has something to do with the ornately detailed brass bangles she's trying to clean. She's using the proper polish, but the gunk on them is stubborn, and every so often she pauses to wipe them down with a strong-smelling cloth that just seems to spread the grime without actually diminishing it.
