When Hektor gave his offering of wine to the Bar, he did not expect an answer from the goddess. At least, he did not expect one straightaway; but it seems he has got one in spite of all that. When he and Melou had finished speaking, he turned back to the Bar. There was a note for him, in carefully prepared Greek, from
Commander Adama. This he reads over several times, running his fingers along the paper as much as he reads the words. Troy does not often see the paper that they make only in Egypt.
When he has finished reading the note for the last time, there are two discoveries yet waiting for him. One is the slender volume of more paper, bound in red leather and stamped with gold lettering.
The second is the fact that the door, it appears, has gone missing.
