Clark's not been here long and he doesn't really intend on staying much beyond a cup of coffee, but...

Well, we'll just say the Winchesters have caught his attention. Or rather, Dean has. And Clark does not look happy about it.

He's mistaken one person here for someone back home and he'd rather not overreact on this occasion and be wrong. That would be bad for Dean. For now, he's just going to sit at his table and stare.

He raises his beer for a swallow and catches a glimpse of the stranger's expression.

Sam lowers the bottle and mutters to Dean,

"Don't look now, man, but I think you've pissed someone off."

"What the--did Meg follow us?"

Dean looks left, looks right, and--

Yep, catches sight of Clark.

"Dude, do you know him?"

The frown remains, but Clark's expression softens a little, because yes he has been listening in and it doesn't appear that this is who he thinks it is. But there could be reasons for that.

He decides there's no point in playing games, pushes away from his table and approaches the brothers. Sam is given a brief look over, but it's clearly Dean he addresses.

"You look like someone I know. Your name wouldn't be Jason, would it?"

Dean looks back, easy smile a mask against the way his hand wants to go for the gun in his waistband.

"Nah. I'm Dean."

Beat.

"You got a reason for asking?"

Clark nods slightly, but that doesn't necessarily mean he believes Dean just yet.

"He tried to kill my parents, so if he were here, I think it's only fair that each of us knows the other is around."

"Makes sense. Sorry to hear it."

Sam's not smiling, but there's nothing visibly standoffish about him, either.

"But as my brother said-- his name's Dean."

A beat.

"I'm Sam."

"Fair'd be nice, yeah."

He raises one eyebrow.

"You got a name, too, kid?"

Clark looks back and forth between the two men a few times before his shoulders relax, tension obviously draining away. He's still a little wary, but really, all he would have done if it was Jason was issue a warning, which he more or less did, so there isn't much else to do on the matter.

"All right. I just had to be sure." He holds out a hand - to Dean first, because that's only fair. "Clark Kent."

Clark Kent? No way--

He manages not to let anything show on his face, even as he gives a quick, friendly smile.

"Nice to meet you. Oh, and it's Winchester," he adds. "Dean and Sam Winchester."

A beat.

"From Kansas."

Dude, that's--

He grins, wide and bright.

"Kansas, more or less, anyway. You ever been there?"

Has he been there. Clark returns the smile. They can't be all that bad if they're from Kansas, can they?

"Yeah, I'm from Smallville. That's not too far outside Metropolis," he adds. "Nice to meet some people I'm not going to have to defend it to."

"Defend it? No way."

Sam shakes his head, still grinning.

"I don't think we've been through Smallville, yet, anyway-- we travel a lot."

"Started in Lawrence, if you know it?"

"Names start to kinda blur together after awhile."

Dean's grin is a little sheepish.

"You know how it is."

"You know how it is. Everyone thinks it's all corn and no fun," Clark shrugs, still smiling though. "Lawrence, yeah, University of Kansas is up there. I considered going there, but I ended up staying close to home."

He gives Dean a slightly puzzled look. How does Metropolis blur with anything? "I guess they do. I haven't really travelled all that much. Where abouts are you now if not still in Kansas?"

"Chicago, at the moment," Sam puts in.

There's a distinct lack of comment on colleges and leaving home to attend them.

"On business."
