Kaylee watches the byplay with some amusement (and very little attempt at hiding it) from a barstool, glass of lemonade at hand.
The slang might change a little bit, but other things don't, and Kaylee's been hanging around in public houses since well before she ever met Malcolm Reynolds.
(Somehow she doubts that this particular truism is one that will make Simon feel better about his existential quandaries.)
...it's been a while since somebody's bothered giving her a once-over. A long while.
Feels good.
But it's the other one that makes her grin widen. "I might, yeah. Don't seem like he does, though." She nods to the taller one. "You got any idea as to why that is?"

"Hey, there. See something you like?"
Maybe he can hook her and Sam up--boy's getting damn cranky lately.
Jesus.

"You never stop, do you?"

Dean smirks, not even giving Sam a glance.
"That and maybe he needs a drink."
He fishes in his pocket for some cash.
"You wanna get me a beer, too, Sam?"
Reply
Sam gives him a look, then sighs.
"Sure. Fork over the cash, man."
In the meantime, he smiles at the girl.
"Sorry. Long day, that's all."
Reply
She gives not-Sam a smile full of innocence and light. Yes. "He don't seem to be all that cranky to me."
Reply
"Yeah, well. You don't have to live with him, do ya?"
Reply
"Can I get you anything?" He jerks a thumb at Dean and grins.
"He's buyin'."

...the amusement is not going anywhere. "So can I ask what kind of long day it was, or not so much?"
Reply
Dean doesn't even bother shooting Sam a dirty look.
"Spent a lot of time on the road, mostly."
Well, there and in bars, following leads.
Still.
Lotta driving.

It's not long before he's back, a beer in each hand. He gives one to Dean, and keeps the other for himself.
There's no sign of any change left over.

Kaylee looks extremely hopeful. "A car? Like, with an internal combustion engine car? Like -- New York Las Vegas Earth-that-Was car?"
Reply
Dean grins, and this one ain't smarmy at all.
"You a fan?"

Kaylee's face has lit up. Just a bit.
"You do the upkeep on her, or...?"
