It’s evening and Kairi can’t concentrate on her homework. Her thoughts keep drifting away from fractions and equations and instead to a smiling boy with blue eyes

There is another girl in the bar tonight, and she has a purpose. In fact, Kairi is the very person she is looking for. (Her Other.)
She's nervous, though -- very nervous. If things happen accordingly, so much could change. Of course, these will be good changes -- good especially for her friends. For Sora and Riku.
For now the other girl is trying to think of some way to approach Kairi, watching her carefully.
Things will be right again once more when she does.
Kairi orders a mug of hot cocoa from the bar and while she waits, scans the Bar, looking for a free seat. It takes several moments - as the bar is reasonably full this evening - before she notices an empty booth. Once she collects her drink, she carefully weaves her way through the tables of patrons toward it.
She sits down, placing the mug in front of her on the table - willing the liquid to cool quickly.
Naminé takes in a breath, not quite aware that she has until she lets it out.
Kairi had passed by her table. Well, not exactly by her table, but close enough that she could still watch her without any trouble from where she is situated.
And now Kairi's alone. If she had a heart, it would be beating wildly in her chest with nerves. Folding her hands behind her back, she rises from her seat and begins to walk towards the other girl's table.
Kairi stirs her cocoa, making swirls in the liquid with her spoon.
Deciding it's cooled off enough, she takes a hesitant sip - burning her tongue.
She can't help it - she laughs.
Out of the corner of her eye, she notices a blond haired girl in a white dress. She thinks nothing of it, aside from idly noting the girl seems approximately her age.
Kairi looks up, startled to see the girl in the white dress.
"Yes?" she says.
The girl is a stranger, of this Kairi is certain. She knows, without a doubt that she has never seen this girl before. ...so then why does she feel so familiar? Like she ought to know her?
Just like Sora, she thinks.
All at once, she feels strangely detached from her surroundings - as if she's here, sitting in the booth - but at the same time, as though she's somewhere else entirely.
She's not sure what exactly she's expecting when their hands touch - a tingling feeling of some kind maybe, like an electric shock - some outward sign of connection. Something.
But there's nothing, except warm hands holding onto hers.
And between one heartbeat and the next, she's flooded with memories.
[[ Sora and Riku playing on the beach with wooden swords. Sora up to his knees in water, trying in vain to catch fish with his bare hands. A map of the island, made of rocks and seaweed and pieces of driftwood. Hot summer afternoons spent lying under trees, making up stories. ]]
And a promise, that she'd been made to forget.
She remembers it now.
'Kairi. Remember what you said before? I’m always with you, too. I’ll comeback to you. I promise!'
"I know you will!" she says softly, opening her eyes.

She takes a breath. Hands still folded behind her back, she clears her throat. A lock of blond hair falls into her face, but she ignores it.
"Excuse me," she begins. "Kairi?"

It's very unsettling.

"I have something important to give back to you," Naminé says, letting her hands rest now at her sides.

Whatever could this girl have - that belongs to Kairi?
"You do?"
Reply
"I ... shouldn't have taken them in the first place," she continues, holding out her hands expectantly. "They belong to you, after all."

What-is-she-talking-about?I've-never-seen-her-before. I-can't-have-I'd-remember-it-wouldn't-I? But-would-I-really? I-don't-remember-Sora-even-though-he-knows-me. Is-this-all-some-elaborate-trick? Is-she-lying-to-me.
She closes her eyes and takes a steadying breath. It doesn't help.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out.
She opens her eyes and looks directly into a pair of strikingly blue eyes.
"...I don't understand."
Explain it to me...

"No," she agrees and her voice is almost...wistful. "I wouldn't expect you to."
She still holds her hands out to Kairi, expecting the other girl to take them when she's ready.
"Please trust me, Kairi. You'll understand everything soon."
Reply
Who (or what) can she trust, if not her head?
Trust your heart. a voice whispers, in the back of her head. Funny, it sounds kind of like Sora.
She exhales and makes up her mind.
"Fine. But first, tell me your name..."
She's not sure why, but one thing she's sure of - it's important for her to know it.

Knowing her name will change nothing in Kairi's fated path; it will change nothing in Sora's either. She will make sure of that.
"Naminé," she answers, her voice soft. "My name is Naminé."

She reaches for Naminé's hands - and closes her eyes.

It will return to her like second-nature, like she never missed these memories at all. It won't hurt. It won't even feel like anything.
Kairi's hands are warm in Naminé's and she doesn't let go until Kairi is ready to let go of her.
