Over at a table is a sprite on a mission. After all the events of magic that have happened to her at the Bar she's making it a point to read through any textfiles she can find on the subject. Dot's not far through her stack of booksIt's not that she has even so much as a ion of talent for magic in her body, it's that she knows next to nothing on ( Read more... )

It's the sound of rustling pages that wakes Roäc up from his nap in the rafters.

Books.

The big bird likes books.

So much knowledge to be gained.

This means he has to see who's reading and more importantly ask them if they'll share.

Because someone has to turn the pages...

Tis a lady with green skin, pouring over a book of magic and psychic defense, leaned forward in her chair.

Looks to be room for a large raven to perch on the back. Perhaps an introduction is in order?

Well that is unusual. Roäc has never seen a woman with a green complexion before.

"Greetings and well-met," he croaks. "I am Roäc son of Carc. And I don't believe I've seen your kind here before."

"Greetings.." Dot looks up towards the source of the voice. "I am Dot Matrix. A pleasure to meet you. I've only been here for a few months now."

Talking Bird. Talking...Raven if Dot's lessons in biology are any worth. "You'll have to excuse me for staring, I've never seen so many different people before."

Raven. Yup. Not to be confused with crows, which are rude buggers.

"There are a lot of people," Roäc agrees. "From many worlds. I am from a land Men call 'Middle earth'. What world are you from?"

"I'm from a town called Mainframe, in an area of reality called Cyberspace. Technically it's world inside of several objects in another world simply called Earth." Yes. That makes her head hurt as well if she thinks on that too much.

It's making Roäc's head hurt.

Mainframe? Cyberspace?

What is "cyberspace" anyways?

Maybe it's a world. Yes. If he thinks of it that way...

"Mainframe. My home in Middle earth was the Misty Mountains, where the Dwarves lived."

Dwarves. Important cultural point. Dot's heard about dwarves from fantasy games so now she's got a pretty good idea of what kind of world Roac is from.

"Interestings, there's only sprites and binomes where I am from. I wonder... are you from a world at all familiar with Magick?"

lordofravens April 24 2007, 02:25:42 UTC
The same kind of world that has Elves in it too.

"Yes. There's magic in my world, but it's practised by the Istari as well as by Valar and Maiar, though they might say only Istari are magic-

What is a 'sprite' and what is a 'binome'? Are they races of people?"

"Yes, though we live side by side. I'm a sprite, our skin comes in a variety of colors, but we are usually human-shaped. Binomes are smaller.. here.. let me bring up a picture for you." She accessed the commands to bring up a small vid window, no more than a foot square in front of herself, showing a pair of binomes. One of each type. "They tend to come in varied colors as well, but only two shapes. Either 1 or 0. The 1's are rectangular, 0 being like a ball."

And Roäc was just about to chalk it off to some bizarre illness too...

"What strange creatures binomes are," he notes as he looks at the picture. "Short and round or tall and cubical."

He looks at Dot. "So there is no magic in your world?"

"None, but there is much here and I've found myself at the whim of someone using magic to change what I am. With unpleasant results." She holds up the book she's been reading in particular. "I cannot practice magic myself, but it would not hurt to learn how to defend myself from it."

lordofravens April 24 2007, 04:23:45 UTC
That can't be good. If it's against one's will.

"I presume you didn't ask for the change?"

He'd quirk an eyebrow if he had one to quirk.

"How are you going to defend yourself from magic if you can't do magic? I thought you needed someone else to do the protecting?"

He ruffles his feathers.

"Lots of people who do magic. So one might be willing to help you?"

"I did not. I think one would have to be very foolish to request being turned into a child's toy doll."

Dot turns a page in the book, a diagram of the parts of a pig and how they can be used in spells against various ailments.

"I was hoping to ask a friend who can do magic to create a few spells for me. I know a couple of people here who do use it, and it's possible to get signs and charms engraved in certain metal against this sort of thing."

Beat.

Yeah that'd suck. Being baby-talked to and dressed up in Barbie clothes and invited to tea parties hosted by the rich snobby girl from next door and her expensive, 5000-word vocabulary baby doll.

"And what will you do with the signs and charms once you have them?" he says, trying not to be so much of a Raven and covet pig entrails like every other Raven does.

Or being forced to battle the salt-shaker in a mini-dress while your equally trapped boyfriend is put through moves that would make a contortionist wince. ...By your little brother.

"Wear some of them under my clothing, or if possible distribute them to the few other sprites here at the Bar. Keep them on my person at all times while at the bar." She smiles a bit, Roac is good reading company.

And he can have the ruddy entrails. Dot wouldn't be the least bit interested in auguries.
