There's no tower of fire this time. He just ignites and the air fills with the roar of a beast imprisoned. He's still stuck, his mission still awaits, there's nothing that he can do

Mary Anne's been out at the shooting range tonight, working out some of her nervous energy by forcing herself to focus. She's headed back inside when the flaming motorcycle catches her eye.
She drops the overlarge briefcase she was carrying (sniper rifle's no good here) and rests one hand easily on the gun tucked into the back of her jeans. For the moment, she's content to just watch and see what the skeleton-on-fire will do. But it never hurts to be prepared.
"TOO MANY MORTALS FOCUS ON THE CORPREAL FORM THAT I TAKE.." The Rider says, "I THINK PERHAPS, YOU UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS NOT WHAT I LOOK LIKE, BUT WHAT I AM THAT IS TO BE FEARED. "
The closer he gets, the more heat rises off his body. Steam and fire, the fires of hell.
But hell is so much more then fire. It's also darkness. Hellfire has a distinctly evil blend to it, a mix of actual heat, and the pain and suffering that burning alive brings A livid thing. Almost sentient.
"THE MORTAL WHO'S FORM I SHARE WISHES TO CONVEY THAT HE'S..."
Is that...distaste?
"SURPRISED THAT THERE IS SOMEONE LOOKING OUT FOR MORTALS. YOU ARE MYTH AND STAND WITH THE ANCIENT EARTH. IS IT YOU OR ONE OF YOUR KIND THAT HAS WARDED THIS REALM AGAINST MY COMING?."
He points a skeletal hand at the bar. Clearly he wants in and the mun The bar ain't standin' for it. Someone explained the rules to Johnny, no one did that for the Rider.
"This power I have comes from them. Without them, it's meaningless," she says.
"Also, I was mortal once. Perhaps that colors my judgement as well."
She smiles faintly. "None of my family has warded this place. That duty belongs to a power most call the Landlord. He--or she--does not show their face here; they simply draw patrons in and ensure their safety." The smile shifts to smirk. "I hope that I would not wish to harm you. And while harm may be beyond me, there are far greater powers here."
The skeleton nods. Get the information while he can, "THERE IS QUARRY INSIDE. I AM A SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE AND MY DUTY IN THE REALMS IS TO PUNISH THE WICKED."
He says realms because that's what he does. And since he's the first being to cross from heaven to hell completely intact...
"AS A MORTAL I WOULD HAVE CATAGORIZED YOU AS ONE OF MINE. A SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE YOURSELF."
That is about the highest compliment that a Rider can pay Mary Anne. Just so you know.
"I AM BOUND TO OBEY THE LAWS OF THIS REALM, AND AM THEREFORE TRAPPED HERE AND FORBIDDEN FROM ENTERING IN MY STATE. THE MORTAL MAY COME AND GO AS HE PLEASES. HOW DO YOU COME BY THIS CHANGE?"
"I respect your duty," she begins, "but one of the laws of this place is no business from the outside. It isn't always fair, but it's the law."
It's possible she hears the underlying compliment in the words, and she takes them to heart. "I came to this change when other members of the tarot offered it to me. After much thought, I accepted and took the mark."
"I AM BOUND TO A NEW MORTAL EVERY GENERATION, BARRING INTERFERENCE FROM THE MORTALS THEMSELVES."
The Rider snorts. Like that happens often.
"YOU SHOULD STRIVE TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR DUTIES MORE FREQUENTLY. NUMEROUS MORTALS THAT THIS FORM AND I HAVE ENCOUNTERED SEEM TO THINK LESS WITH THEIR HEADS AND MORE WITH THEIR HEARTS."
Hooray for reading and learning that this particular card deals with rational head thinkin!
She laughs, not unkindly. "I do my best, but I'm only one woman. And the best I can do is nudge them in the right direction. Even I rely more on instinct sometimes, perhaps more than I should."
By which she means, 'I have something of a short fuse, but I like it that way.'
The Skeleton laughs, "THIS HUMAN HAS DONE SO ALSO. MORTAL OR IMMORTAL, IT SEEMS THE NATURE OF MEN TO RUSH SO QUICKLY TO THEIR ETERNAL REWARDS. ARE THEY SO AFRAID OF WHAT LIES BEYOND THAT THEY WOULD RATHER RUSH BLINDLY AHEAD WITHOUT PREPARING FOR IT?"

Over hill and over dale it passes until it stops short around the lake's edge.
The skeleton turns.
And hell itself is reflected back in it's sockets.
No noise. Not yet. Just a spark and the fire rises.

But she's too (brave) stubborn to do either.
She looks back with too-blue eyes and her jaw set.

IS THAT...puzzlement?
"YOU DO NOT RUN."

"And appearances are often decieving in this place." She smiles faintly. "It's not in my nature to run."

It sounds like something backfires, as the rider breathes in deep. and the mun reads up on Mary Ann to complete that omnipotent effect
"WHAT ARE YOU AND WHERE DO YOU STAND?"
With the father in heaven or the father in hell? There's a big battle going on you understand, and creatures mythological or not are involved.

Good question.
"I am
(sweetheart Legs best girl best friend fighting wren lover wife)
the Queen of Swords. I stand with humanity, to guide them and aid them in what ways I can."
Just because she's not human anymore doesn't mean she can't still watch out for her (former) kind.

The human, has more questions.
"ASSISTANTS ARE AN ASSET NO ONE CAN IGNORE. BUT TO BE RECKLESS YOURSELF IS NEVER A WISE PLAN.

"I have spent most of my life being reckless. It's a difficult thing to unlearn."
