[ooc: And here we have The Tiger of the Chinese Zodiac. He communicates by telepathy (even though it will appear as dialogue), and don't worry - he's not going to eat you!]

Outside, a tiger comes bounding down the mountainside, through the forest and stops, rather abruptly, at the lake.

With a tilt of his head, he leans back on his haunches and ( Read more... )

Jen, who's happily enjoying a café au lait and a copy of the Daily Bugle at a table, sees stripes in her peripheral vision, and looks up to see...a tiger.

The first thing she thinks is that the tiger must be a Bengal. The second and third things that flits across her mind are where did this magnificient beast come from? and ohmigosh, how beautiful.

"Who's a pretty kitty? Who's a pretty kitty, hmmm? Who's a pretty kitty?"

[[OOC: the devil made me do it. :-) ]]

Tiger stares at her for a moment before padding over.

"I am not a kitty," he informs her, although he can't help but look amused.

Mr. Tigger hasn't made any audible noise, but nonetheless, there is some kind of telepathic communication at work, obviously, along with sentience.

"Sure you are. Felidae, correct? Also, I taste terrible, Mr. Tigger."

He's literally one of the most beautiful things she's ever seen. Jen's wondering if the High Evolutionary is somehow involved in the making of a telepathic tiger.

"I am not looking to eat anybody."

He eyes her, head tilting just a little.

"You are green."

"Good. You'd have a tough time getting through my hide, anyway."

She's having to restrain herself from smiling idiotically and petting that glorious coat of his. It looks so soft and shiny. And she has questions, questions, questions, but he's a talking tiger, so all in good time.

"Yes, I am green. Lots of spinach, wheat grass juice, and a blood transfusion. My blood is even green, in this form."

The Tiger blinks.

"Food made you change colors?"

He looks fearfully at his own stripes.

"No. I was embellishing the truth. Sorry, Tigg- ...what is your name, o wonderous and gorgeous tiger?"

What is the proper etiquette for inviting a tiger to join you? Would you like a big pillow, kitty?

"I'm green because I was subjected to intense gamma radiation years ago. It's a mutagenic form of radiation that changed me to something a little more than 'regular person,' " she adds, by way of partial explanation.

"Tiger will do fine."

He tilts his head.

"Oh. I'm... sorry?"

He's not sure what to say to such a thing, as he doesn't know what gamma radiation is.

"It's very nice to meet you, Tiger."

She realizes a second later that yes, it's conceivable that he could be puzzled by the concept of gamma radiation.

"Nothing to be sorry for, kitt-...Tiger. Being green has done me a world of good. Let me explain it this way: a family member gave me some of his blood, and that is how I changed to the beauteuous emerald creature you see before you. This family member had blood that had been altered with gamma rays, which are a kind of light with special...things in it."

She does smile now, because on top of being beautiful, he's also dangerously cute, and she wants to tickle his whiskers.

If Jen ever adopted a kitten, she'd likely never get any work done ever again.

Tiger's ears twitch as he listens, very intently.

"Well then, there's nothing wrong with being special, and you are a very beautiful creature. Green, like the Earth that sustains all life."

Beautiful, cute, and charming! Oh, if only he were a man.

Jen is a bit taken aback by the unexpected analogy, and rather touched, truth be told.

"Sustaining life. I'd never quite thought of it that way..."

She looks at his eyes for a moment.

"Where do you come from, Tiger?"

"Many places, but I arrived from Malaysia."

Look at those big, tigery, innocent eyes!

"Do all tigers call themselves 'Tiger'? Rather than Ethel or Tristan or Julio?"

Because maybe tigers haven't gotten to nomenclature yet?

"No, some have names. I do not. I am simply King Tiger."
