Third day since the phone call. Harry comes home on day four. At least, he's supposed to. Annie's nerves are starting to wear down despite her efforts to the contrary. Thank God for Milliways; it's a retreat from the everyday, no matter what other terrors or splendors it might hold

Ace, who had been deep in the workings of a new puzzle, looks over at Annie with some concern.

"Annie, y'alright? No offense, but y'look a bit knackered."

"Oh- no, Ace, it's nothing," Annie says, looking up. "I still haven't heard from Harry, that's all, and he hasn't been back here either. He's due home tomorrow, though."

Ace squints.

"If he's gone an' done sommat stupid again, I reserve the right t'thrash'im."

Right.

That could totally happen.

"More likely it's the girls' testing taking longer than he'd anticipated," says Annie. "He did say it would probably take four days to do it properly to the Council's satisfaction. Normally the Slayer's in the field from the moment she's Called. This is very nearly the first time in history they've ever had the chance to give these girls a really proper grounding before seeing them all blooded, so they're paying extra attention to the initial training and testing group. Which means extra attention to Harry."
