Pippin blinks as the door swings open. Merry has gone back to Brandy Hall and he is alone today, which is why he pauses in the door a moment. He glances over his shoulder, appearing uncertain. Looks at the bar ( Read more... )

A weird-looking girl hops on a stool nearby. "Soda, please." Can of died carbonated drink appears, with a straw. With a breakfast like that, no surprise she looks so thin...

She looks -- interesting, yes. Pippin has met a girl with blue hair, though, and a woman who painted herself green, so he only stares at her a moment or two.

No, he is more interested in whatever it is that she is drinking.

After a moment, never shy, he asks, "What's that?"

[OOC: Hee, thank you!]

Ravin's brow rises at the small guy. Deja vù... "Diet soda. Fizzy water with coloring and somehting that tastes like sugar but is not."

Confused face!

"Why would you want something that tastes like sugar but isn't?"

"Because real sugar makes me sick." That is a reason. Why, it would be a nightmare for a hobbit, but indeed, is a reason.

Pip blinks dumbly.

"But what about pastries? Surely you can eat pastries," he reasons.

"No, makes me sick as well. Plain bread, unleavened, is possible." See, that is why she is so thin.

Pippin gapes at her, horrified.

"Yes. Most of the things I do eat would make -other- people sick, so I guess it balances out in the end." No, he does not want to know. Trust me on that.

Unfortunately, he does want to know.

He swallows (no pastries!) and asks, "What can you eat?"

"Blood. Embalming fluid." Hey, she is half-undead. "Poisonous herbs, mushrooms, the kind that make people die." And that is the short list. "And things like this, without anything natural on them but water." She indicates the soda.

Pippin looks up at her, then down at the (nonpoisonous) mushrooms on his plate, then back to her.

Peregrin Took is, for once in his life, speechless.

Let us find his voice, then? The strange girl decides to follow human customs of politeness, and offers him a hand. "I am Ravin."

Pippin shakes her hand woodenly, with his much smaller one.

Not so small, Ravin is at most five feet tall, and slender/petite. Pippin might notice her hand is a bit cool, and that she has only three fingers and a thumb, even if her hand is well-proportioned and looks almost human for the absent digit. "And yours, is...?"

Pippin is at least a foot shorter than Ravin. He does, though, have four fingers, and he notices her lack.

His eyes are wide. "What happened to your other finger?" he blurts.
