Drink with me to days gone by.At some point in the afternoon, just as the end of the universe recycles itself and begins anew its explosions in the observation window, a pale, tangle-haired man slips down the stairs from the rooms. It's been twelve hours... has it been twelve hours? Something like twelve hours, maybe more... maybe it's been ( Read more... )

Even though she doesn't know what happened last night, and what decisions were reached, April can guess pretty easily when she looks over and catches sight of him. She stops rubbing at her arm (it's almost raw, under her sweater) and gets up to go sit next to him.

"You look like shit, honey," she says softly as she sits.

Miniver blinks at her. It takes him a moment to respond. He's shaking. Shaking all over. But he forces a smile at her.

"Hey. April. How are you?"

"Better than you," she says, because he doesn't need to hear her problems right now. She pushes his hair back a little, so she can see his face, and tugs him into a hug.

"You don't have to smile if you don't feel like it. I know it's tough."

His face is hot and pale as a dead fish.

"It's not gonna get better soon, is it?" he sighs, closing his eyes and leaning against her. "Fuck the walls, but I promised I'd do it right this time."

Okay, this guy? Clearly not good.

So Guppy approaches after a little while, crouching in front of Miniver so he doesn't have to move his head.

"Hello there. My name's Guppy, and I'm a doctor." he keeps his voice gentle. "Do you want some help?"

Stare.

"Yes. Yes? No. NO. Go away," Miniver decides, not otherwise moving.

Guppy doesn't move.

"Are you sure? I might be able to make you feel better."

He's keeping a slight distance, in case the man jumps up and socks him on the nose for not minding his own business.

"You can't," Miniver informs him authoritatively, "unless you have some really strong alcohol. And I won't. I promised." His voice trails off into a high-pitched whimper as he rubs at his arms, shaking. "Please go away. I won't bother anyone."

Draco was keeping an eye in his own way. The key had some tracing enchantments on it.

Also, there was a pygmy owl with green and grey coloring in the rafters. Watching attentively.

Owl.

Fucking owl.

Miniver sees it, but doesn't immediately differentiate it from anything ELSE he thinks he might see at the moment. Except that the green owl is remarkably clearer than anything else he almost feels and sees. It isn't pressing against his head like a vice. Which, Miniver feels, is really very thoughtful of it. So he watches it. Because it ISN'T trying to push the walls onto him or making his skin feel like there are bugs under it.

Martin the owl briefly blinked, and hooted quietly. Still watching.

Draco didn't know much about addictions, and was elsewhere looking up some things. He knew he couldn't do much for comfort for right now, and the angsty clinging just rather confused him. It was a foreign concept.

But the owl kept monitoring, and if things got seriously horrible, it would fetch the wizard.

The hoot gets something like a small, tired smile.

Miniver hoots back at it, and rests his head on his arms.

He's not sure how real the owl is, but he thinks he likes it.
