"Maybe you've had the wrong kind of friends?" Mel suggests, catching the apple with little effort, and uncrossing her legs to see who she's talking to.

"Oh hi. Not seen you since I was little."

Literally.

"You got Lilly," Mel points out easily. "And Ako, for two."

Being friends with Mel herself is a bad idea, so she wouldn't suggest it.

"Yeah, I grew up, sorry. I was getting a bit sick of the hamster balls."

Ignoring emo talk for explanations of ways to torture people smaller than he, Mel holds her hands out - one still with the untouched apple - about the right distance apart.

"It's a ball about so big. You put a hamster in it and they make it roll round by trying to climb up the sides. Or you can ask Bar for one strong enough to be used by a little tiny Slayer."

Mel laughs.

"There was toe-stubbing," she confirms. "Hell, by the end of it I'd worked out a way to crack shins with it. That was fun."

Mel nods once in satisfaction.

"Thanks," she says proudly. "It'd be a pain to hafta change back."

"Yeah," she says with a shrug. "I'm good at that."

"Dunno," Mel counters with a smirk. "I've never tried it. You?"

Mel laughs, and tosses the apple up, catching it again easily.

"So what've you been up to while I was stuck at home overcoming obstacles?"
