Sara is not a bird, nor is she a plane.

She's curled up in her favorite armchair near one of the fireplaces, a mug of coffee in her hands.

She doesn't look precisely happy, but neither does she look angry.

At any rate, she can be bothered. Company would be a welcome distraction from her thoughts.

There is a somewhat scruffy looking pirate of some kind at the Bar, drinking rum (what else) and contemplating the catured lightning in glass tubes overhead. He barely notices the fair lass at the fireplace.

"Make this one a gingerbread latte," she tells the waitrat when it returns, voice probably carrying far enough to get Gibbs' attention.

He looks away from the lights and towards the young woman. "Good day, miss," he says cordially enough.

"Hi," she returns, looking over him with a practiced stare. Sailor or pirate and I'm inclined to think pirate.

"Did you know that these magic candles are actually lightning captured in glass? Amazing what they can do these days," he says as if it's the biggest revelation since the Sermon on the Mount. "I still prefere a canlde, but they do have some charm to them."

"Indeed they do; I'm rather accustomed to them," she says with an amused look. "My name's Sara--I'm from the year 2007. You?"

"Gibbs, miss. From much earlier." He's still in awe of the idea that there can be people her from the future. "They have these devices in your time?"

"Yes, and many others that would probably seem like magic to you." She's not being condescending. Her tone is rather matter-of-fact. "Where're you from?"

"Miss Rachel tells me this isn't magic, but she also tells me she's not a witch, so I'm sure of things. But I can accept that." In other words, he's getting used to the place.

"I'm from the Caribbean these days. Usually Tortuga. And yourself?"

"Nevada--that's north of Mexico in the southwestern part of America," she says, making a guess at the date he's from. "Tortuga? Do you know Jack Sparrow? He's told me a bit about there."

"Of course I know Captain Jack," he says cheerfully (but making sure to emphazies "captain"). "I've sailed with him many a time over the years. Including of late on the Pearl. One of the finest pirates there's ever been.

"What did he tell you of Tortuga?" He wants to gauge what sort of woman this lass is, and seeing how she treats Tortuga will help.

"Judging by his description, it is the sort of place that embodies the phrase 'may you live in interesting times'. Of course, the same can be said of the city where I live."

"Interesting?" He gives a hearty laugh. "Aye, it's that some days. Other days it's a lot worse than that. Not a fit place for any decent lady or gentleman. Which is how we want it to stay." He grins wickedly.

"Does your Las Vegas have pirates, whores and cutthroats of every breed as well?"

"Not pirates of the sea, at least," she says a bit dryly. "I live in the middle of a desert, a fact that makes Jack shudder every time it's brought up. But there is both legal and illegal prostitution, depending on whether or not the activity takes place in the city or not, drug trafficking, murder, theft, robbery, and partridges in pear trees. As I said...interesting."

"Yes, I can see that." Gibbs isn't going to shudder, but he would be lost in a desert as well. "It does sound like the kind of place that the captain would be at home in, otherwise. But men of his ilk" - and of Gibbs' - "need the sea. Even that lousy lake here is not enough." There is a tiny bit of frustration.

"And what do y' do there?" He's quite sure she couldn't be a prostitute, but things might change if the law protects some of them.

"I can understand that--I grew up on the coast of the Pacific. I miss the ocean sometimes." Her eyes go distant for a moment. "I work as a crime scene investigator. Basically, I go into a crime scene and find physical evidence that will link a perpetrator to that crime, and allow for prosecution."
