When Wells comes into the Bar from his quarters at the Academy today, he's greeted by a note that Annie left him. It's about her conversation with Sharpe the other day. He winces, folds up the paper, and tucks it into his pocket

The lake's good for things like that. It's also good for random acts of bending practice, which is what Katara is doing at the moment. Stragely reminiscent of their last meeting? Perhaps.
At least Katara is fully clothed this time, even in parka and mittens, bending the snow to her will as she goes through her paces.
It takes Wells a moment to realize why what he's seeing looks familiar. That's how long it's been since the last time he saw waterbending in action. It's no less impressive this time, though, so he stops to watch again.
He's forced to admit- inwardly, at least- that he hadn't even thought of the manipulation of snow as part of the water powers.
Snow, ice, water, heavy steam (maybe? probably.) - it all falls under the catergory of water which makes her bending possibly more versatile than Zuko's. And it's what she's practicing now, making a giant wave in the lake and then having it die down to mere ripples before it reaches the bank by her feet.
Noticing Wells? Maybe a little. But it's been a long time and the sky is cloudy, so she simply smiles to let him know she sees him-- saying nothing of recognition.
Wells nods once in greeting and continues to watch. There's no sense in disturbing someone mid-routine, after all. He's always been a bit out of sorts when that's happened to him during his own workouts. Even if this is considerably more impressive to watch.
Katara loves to show off - that shouldn't be news to anyone. So while she does play it up for a little while, making the water twirl and form shapes, crash and swirl in the air, eventually she's just peering back at Wells again.
He's a polite distance away, so he's got to raise his voice a bit. "You'd be Katara, would you?" he calls. "It's been a damned long time. I met you out here once- last year, I think."
That is indeed a good starting point. Katara blinks and finally remembers, smiling as she lets the water slosh back into the lake. "Oh, hi! You're-- Mr. Wells, right? Zuko's friend?"
Wells nods. "That'd be me, yeah. Hallo, Katara. How've you been?"
It's a little weird to be defined by who he knows, rather than what he did or said, but considering the world difference and all it's only to be expected. She knew the prince first, after all.
"Well enough, I suppose," he says. "Just got in from my world, and I was trying to decide if I ought to go and get the dogs back from Stephanie for a walk. They've been good boys today, from what she's told me."
Wells bites his lip a moment before answering, "Zuko's left the Bar. From the sound of things, he doesn't intend to come back. He left me the dogs and said they were mine now, see."

"Okay," is her reply, given with a smile as she walks over to him. "How are you?"

News.
Blinking and obviously surprised (stunned?) by this, Katara has nothing to say for a moment.
"...Oh."
Other than that.

And then, because she can't not ask:
"Has he told Stephanie?"

Then he exhales. "Yeah," he says quietly. "Yeah, he has. It... went about as well as you'd expect."
