The door opens and admits Nita, along with a brief sight of one of the Grand Central tracks and associated noise.

She barely gives the bar a glance, heading instead for a booth and pulling out a notebook (apparently from thin air). Flopping onto the bench, she starts flipping through the notebook and finally settles on a few pagesHer concentration

Gavroche wanders over and slides into her booth uninvited.

"Dai."

[nita_callahan]

She looks up and gives him a quick, warm smile.

"Dai, Gavroche. How're you?"

[street_sparrow]

"Good", he says, smiling back. "You? What're you working on?"

[nita_callahan]

She taps the notebook.

"Dream interpretation, I think."

[street_sparrow]

"Yeah? Yours?"

He cranes over for a look at the notebook.

[nita_callahan]

"Yep."

She lets him glance over the pages. "They're leading up to something, and -- I don't know, I have an idea what, but I . . ."

Don't like it at all.

". . . I'm not sure yet."

[street_sparrow]

Gavroche looks up at her, face serious.

"What d'you think it is?"

[nita_callahan]

She pushes the notebook to one side and rests her elbows on the table.

"Have you heard of the Book of Night with Moon?"

[street_sparrow]

"Heard of it, but not very much."

Kennis emerges from his sleeve and sits on the table, ready to provide more information.

[nita_callahan]

A nod. "It's kind of an advanced subject. The Book -- well, it looks like a book in this universe, a book written in the Speech. And it has everything described in it. Every so often it needs to be read from, to keep things in the Universe real."

It's a little surreal to be sitting here giving a new wizard this speech. It was only a couple years ago that she and Kit were sitting in Tom and Carl's kitchen getting the same information.

"Who has to read from it? Just any wizard?"

[nita_callahan]

"Usually it's the Seniors, because it's a lot of power."

She shrugs. "But you know wizardry -- 'usually' doesn't mean always. I read from it during my Ordeal."

[street_sparrow]

"Was that what your Ordeal was? Having to do that?"

He knows the Lone Power well enough to know it wouldn't be that simple.

[nita_callahan]

A small grin. "Well, first we had to get it back from the Lone Power."

[street_sparrow]

"...ah." He grins back. "Where'd It take it?"

[nita_callahan]

"Alternate universe. Scary place, He'd put out the Sun."
