It pays, it really does pay, to get to the hospital a few hours before rounds and go through the cases. Not only does that give you time to look up details that have become fuzzy, but you know which patients are getting the cool surgeries, and it is so much easier to gun for those ( Read more... )

Sharon is also not watching where she is walking as she is reading a book (stupid thing to do while walking but hey).
She walks straight into Christina scattering her papers and dropping her own book in the process.

"what the... Oh sorry. Guess I should watch where I'm walking."

She bends down and begins to gather up the pages that are now covering the floor.

"Yeah, you should." Christina grumbles, even though she was doing much the same thing. "What are you doing back here anyway? This is..." The annoyed rant cuts off as she realizes that once again she's wandered into the psycho ward from hell.
"Oh come on, I haven't even had my third cup of coffee yet."

Sharon glances behind her to see what the woman is talking about.

"What do you mean back here? Where do you think you are?"

"I know I'm in this twisted version of a psychiatric ward, and I'm hoping there's a coffee maker somewhere. I have rounds in two hours and I need to finish my reading." Christina corrects, heading towards the bar with her usual hurried pace.

Sharon was annoyed, the woman was being very rude. She picked up one of the papers that she'd missed and followed the woman to the bar.

"You're welcome by the way. Here's one you missed."

She handed the other paper to the woman.

"Huh?" Christina gives the other woman a very blank look, the file under her arm. "That's not one of mine." There's a reason hosptial files are bound together - lots of people in a rush lead to multiple collusions. "Where is a waiter? Hey, service over here!"

"You just have to ask for what you want and Bar will give it to you."

Sharon just assumed that everyone had been here a lot and knew how things worked, then she remembered that sometimes people are new like her.

"You haven't really been here before have you?"

"Of course I've been here before. Seen the weirdos, got away, didn't buy the overpriced t-shirt. Look, hang on just a second..." She leans on the bar, calling louder to be heard over the noise of the bar. "I just want coffee. Black coffee. Hello?"

Cue the highly confused look when a pale blue mug full of steaming hot coffee appears at her elbow.

Sharon laughs a little, remembering how she felt when she had first arrived at Milliways. Before anyone had explained how things worked here she was so confused.

"I don't think you understand, there are no bar people. The bar is sentient or so I've been told. You don't have to shout, you just have to say what you want and you get it."

One thing's for certain - Christina is not going to drink the poltergiest coffee. There's limits, even for coffee.

"If there's no bar people, then why have a bar? That's just stupid." She argues insstead, firmly ignoring the heady scent of roasted coffee beans.

Sharon was trying to be patient, knowing how hard it was to accept all of this.

"I just said you don't need bar people, the bar serves you by itself. I found it really weird too, you'll get used to it."

The look Christina gives the other woman could be interpreted many ways.

'Are you functionally mentally retarded' is one of them.

"But why a bar, with bottles and taps and all of that? There could just be a counter, off in a corner somewhere." She argues, irritated.

"I know as much as you do, that's just the way it works. I suppose it adds to the atmosphere of the place."
