Dexter's been holed up in his room for the past few days, coming down only to ask the bar for some peculiar things a bit at a time before heading back up. A new shirt, for one. Books you can't find on Earth. A DNA kit, a screwdriver, and a giant carton of red licorice, among other things ( Read more... )

"Hi, Dexter." Suzi smiles at him, and waves, from her comfortable seat not facing the fire. She rather likes the fact that it doesn't face the fire.

Dexter smiles and waves back.

"Hi, Suzi. How's it going?"

"Pretty good. Whistler isn't crazy anymore, someone from my future showed up and says that by her time there is a government that doesn't encourage Junctness, and I'm researching vasectomies and tubal ligations." She informs him, "How are you?"

"Wow. That's quite a list you have going. Me? I've just been a bit of a hermit, lately. Working on a personal project, but I doubt I'll get it done any time soon. Every little bit helps, right?"

"Uh huh. Sometimes its hard to get things to work out as fast as you want them to." She sighs a little, then laughs softly, "May I ask what it is, or would you rather not talk about it?"

"Well like I said, it's a work in progress, so I don't even know if it's going to turn out like I want it to. I promise I'll tell you more about it once it starts to take on some kind of shape." A charming smile.

"By the way, you seem different from the last time I saw you. You're not speaking in questions all the time."

A little blunt, but that's Dexter for you.

"I've been working on it." She says firmly, "And, um. Well, I think that having Whistler around helps?"

Dexter nods. "You're doing good." He's trying to be reassuring, even though he doesn't need to be. She really is doing good.

"How's Whistler doing? And your jewelry business?"

He doesn't actually care about Whistler, but it's the polite thing to ask, so he asks. It's one of those things that confused him as a child - why do you ask after the wellbeing of someone you don't know (and therefore don't actually care about)? He still doesn't really know the answer, but he does know it's a social norm, and follows it.

"He's doing fine. Better than fine, really. He got turned into a Gen, so I'm able to keep him healed and at peak health really easily. Business is a little slow, but it should pick up soon. The chocolate holiday is in another month. I've been making lots of heart jewelry."

Which reminds her, and she reaches into the bag she's started carrying finished commissions around in, "Is this what you wanted?" The necklace is just as they talked about.

Dexter takes the necklace and has a look. "That's just what I was looking for! Thanks Suzi, how much do I owe you?" Rita will love it. He really has no idea why women have this thing for jewelry, but the point is, Rita will love it. And a happy Rita means a happy home life for Dexter.

"I let the Bar take care of that? She'll know what its worth in your world's money, I can't keep everyone's money straight. I'm having a hard enough time with just Whistler's world!" Her voice is very wry, "And trying to add any more?"

"Sounds good! I'm beginning to run low on funds, anyway." Yes, Dexter has actually been paying the bar, rather than just racking up a tab.

"Trying to add more?" He didn't quite get that last bit.

"Any more worlds. My old one, and Whistler's, is enough to strain my head. I like maths, but that's just ridiculous." Her head shakes, and she grins, "So Bar takes care of all my money changing here, and I just take from my account when Whistler and I go back to his world."

Her tab is always in the black.

"I see. Bar's probably the best money exchange service you can get, anyway. She doesn't charge a processing fee...at least I'm assuming she doesn't." It occurs to him that she might, whenever the mood strikes and she feels like she's getting skimped by the tab-rackers. That's Bar for you.

"If she has, she hasn't told me!" Suzi says with a laugh, "I doubt she does, though? Unless Bernard or Mikey told her to?"
