Few things get Zuko to stare in Milliways. Most of them involve the fact that a lot of the women here do insane things with their clothes and call it good and even, occasionally, decent. At least he's no longer hypnotized by the shock of someone else's bare midrif (besides, Ty Lee was a total skeeze and showed everything off!) ....

But that?

He stares. He stares a lot.

Ho. Ho. Ho says the Hogfather, when he becomes aware that he's being stared at. Happy Hogswatch

"Happy what?" Must be an entirely stranger holiday. Christmas doesn't involve skeletons. PRobably not from an Earth, Zuko reasons.

Hogswatch, he explains. Winter holiday involving a ritual sacrifice to a winter god to ensure the return of the sun for the coming year

"Oh." Return of the sun is good, in a Firebender's mind. "That's good. What do you sacrifice?" THat's the part that gets him.

"Pork pies are good," Zuko says thoughtfully.

He is still a little weirded out by it all, but, hey: It's Fucking Milliways.

Beat, while the Hogfather figures out what to do next.

And have you been a good bo... good hu... good person this year?

Zuko's brow goes up. "Have I what? I-- uh--" Been a good boy? Is that like-- a trick question?

This is part of the arrangement, you see, he explains. You are good, then I give you a present.

"Oh. Like --" The other dude in the red suit. The one from Wells' world, who is much fatter then this... Hogfather. "I see."

He still hasn't answered on The Good. Because he -- doesn't really know how to answer that. Does he say yes? Does he say no? Does it matter who thinks he's good and who doesn't?

Zuko thinks too much.

You didn't answer the question he prompts.

"I've been told I think too much," Zuko says with a roll of his eyes. "Yes, I'm good. I think." He's trying to do what he's supposed to, enduring his uncle's insanity in Ba Sing Se, and ...all that. So yes, he's been good, dammit.

Okay

Really, Death doesn't judge, excpet in very obvious cases.

So what would you like for Hogswatch

"I-- I don't-- I mean."

He frowns.

"I don't do very good with gifts."

Or for asking what he wants. Ahh, this is childish and vaguely stupid, he thinks; but when myth's sitting there in a fluffy red suit, you wonder.

But this is part of the arrangement, Death insists. Everyone gets something.

All the good people, anyway.
